Who has signed up so far
I don’t like the character designs. They look like mis-colored, plastic dolls. I want to like it. I want to want to play it (does that makes sense?). It’s Star frakking Wars. And, I loved KOTOR!
But, I can’t get over the character designs in SWTOR. I cannot imagine spending my time looking at my avatar who’ll look like a G.I. Joe action figure of the 70s. Kung-fu grip included.
Why couldn’t they let characters look more KOTOR-ish and less Clone Wars cartoon-ish?
Because a huge mmo full of kotor-like detail would make for a very inaccessible mmo. Not to mention taxing bandwidth wise
Personally, i’m more interested in the story and gameplay than the look, the charactares may be a little blandish but the worlds look lush and interesting. I really like hutta from the screenshots thus far, it reminds me of the plaguelands in WoW (also my favorite zone in WoW)
I doubt it would increase network bandwidth to improve character designs. And, KOTOR came out in 2003 with 512 MB RAM, DirectX 9.0b, and ATI Radeon 9200 or better, NVidia GeForce4 Ti or better recommended requirements. The software tech is six years old now. I don’t know what the requirements for SWTOR are, but I’m assuming DirectX 9.0c compatibility. I think Bioware made a conscious choice to make characters look lackluster for whatever reason.
However, I do agree the backgrounds look stunning.
Do you have a link to sign up for the Beta. I would love to get up on that but upon searching the Old Republic Site i have not found it. Granted i didn’t look to hard. Mostly just at the FAQ. In the words of LeeLuu Dallas MultiPass “Pleeeassee Haelp?”

Actually after a quick Google search yes…yes it does. It sent me to Kotaku when i typed “Old Republic Beta Signup” So it sucks but it does indeed exist.
