Stargate's Spiritual Successor

So, now that Stargate SG-1 is gone (yes, I know it left long ago), which show is its spiritual successor? The show that if you loved SG-1, you’ll love this?

Got nothing, so far.

Actually, it’s probably The Guild or Legend of Neil.

Not SGU, not Sanctuary. Haven’t seen W13.

Grats on OG btw.

Holy OGnity!! The firebreather is an OG!!

none of the three series have captured sci-fi and comedy elements like SG-1 so far.

Hadn’t noticed. Wow. I am an Opera Ghost.

Definitely Sanctuary. I cant point to specifics right now without watching an episode, but the ‘feel’ is very similar to SG1/Atlantis. SGU is nothing like SG1, likely because the people that seemed to be doing all the heavy lifting in SG1 in the later seasons are now on Sanctuary. Damian Kindler and Martin Wood wrote and produced some of the best episodes of SG1. Plus Sanctuary has Amanda Tapping so thats a plus no matter how you look at it!

I think Sanctuary is the closest, in terms of action, problem solving and human drama. And it has Amanda Tapping, as well as Christopher Heyerdahl (Atlantis).

W13 has more of the comedy element, and it has far more chemistry among the cast. It too has action and narrow escapes, but it is just too zany at times to be considered a SG-1 successor. I like the zaniness, and the eccentric characters, but I feel that it moves the show closer to Eureka than Stargate. Sure SG1 had occasional zaniness but it was encapsulated into entire episodes, not spread throughout the entire season…

SGU is not even in the ballpark… It never clicked for me, the action was all but non existent. The problem solving was pathetic, and erratic. There were no likable characters for me to connect with to make me care what happened to them. And when it started becoming ‘Desperate Housewives in Space’ it jumped the shark for me. I walked away in disgust and never looked back, just like ‘Defying Gravity’.
