well, you can still get DT rushed, or ghost rushed in the early game (if they go all out with it). And you can certainly get Infester Infested Terran rushed in the mid game.
it’s really about scouting. you really have to know the buildings for DTs or the borrowing claws fro the zerg or the banshee/ghost are on their way before you invest money into spore crawlers, missile turrets or observers.
If you build those buildings every game and they are just rushing you with balls of infantry units, then you are really boned, because you wasted so much money and gas on detection…
The benefit of Terran is that they can always scan even when they have no detection units. If the enemy base if blocked off or well defended, Terran can also scan enemy base to see if those buildings are out.
Yes, early scouting is key. I’m of the opinion that anything other then marines, zerglings or zealots is not really a rush. By the time one builds DT, Banshee’s or Ghosts you are beyond hording resources and have a steady income. Yes, building things unnecessarily can get you but if DT are in play then air should also be in play and not being ready for that is certain death.
The scan is great but limited by energy. I’m just saying that you can build Observers and Overseers before Ravens so the balance is there.
they usually hide their stargate at the edge of their base… so you have to keep your scouting SCV alive, otherwise it’s shoot and miss with the comsat.
only thing i’ve seen that counters the Void Ray rush are the marines.
If you play Zerg, queens probably are the only thing that stops the Void Ray, unless you can bust their base with speedling/banglings… It just takes so long before zerg can get the hydralisks out in Starcraft 2.
If you play protoss, i guess stalkers… or get your own void rays or Phoenixes, out.
Void ray rush is pretty easy to beat if you just assume the protoss is going to do it too you, at least if your terren or protoss…not sure about how zerg counter it. I haven’t played alot of em.
I am a bit confused about Zergs… in the old game Zerg is all about putting a lot of units that doesn’t have a lot of blood on the field early. So Zerg players are more about early aggression.
In the new game early aggression seems to be on the Terran or Protoss’s side. With the Terran they can rush with Reapers, and jump up and down to kill a lot of drones. Or they can push out Hellions, and roast a bunch of drones.
Protoss can always four gate with proxy-pylons, or go for the Void Ray. Those will also kill a lot of drones.
But if the protoss or terran have a decent wall in, there is almost no way for early zerglings to run by. Pushing it towards the mid-game for speedlings or banglings. Even then a decent wall-in with Barrack + Factory pretty much puts an end to that…
Yeh, I will be better prepared next time. I had never seen it before so I was a bit taken back and unprepared.
As you said, “In the old game”. I don’t know what you mean by doesn’t have a lot of blood. When I squish them they go…splat! Times change and balance changes. You still have Overloards and Nydus Network. Just another reason Starcraft in general is so great. You have several choices of who to play and that changes how you play.
i have seen very few utilizations of Nydus Network in the casted pro games, but the ones that I did see, and that worked, involved roaches. And usually used as an last ditch effort. And terran can get a reaper way earlier than zerg can get roaches anyway, so usually nydus doesn’t happen till late in the game.
I hear the higher level players saying things are all good with the Zerg and the lower level players are shouting for changes. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Everyone check out this game. It is the greatest battle I have ever seen!
