Star Wars Holiday Special!?!?!

In doing my usual rounds on the internet I stumbled across this and practically fell out of my chair.

http://www.wheelon.com/swscripts/scripts.htm

It is a collection of Star Wars downloadable scripts. Right before I almost shut down the page the final entry caught my attention:

Star Wars: Holiday Special

I opened it out of curiousity and was blown away. This is not animated, nor are there other people playing the roles…

…this is live action with Mark as Luke, Harrison as Han, Carrie as Leia. It also has (I am not making this up) Art Carney, Beatrice Arthur, Diahann Carroll, The Jefferson Starship and Harvey Korman! Seriously!

It also has Chewie’s whole family…including:
His wife, Malla.
His father, Itchy.
His son, Lumpy.

Now, as I am at work I cannot search Youtube to see if this is up somewhere. I am not sure what I find more frightening…the fact that this exists or the fact I remember seeing this on TV.

That’s right…I had forgotten about this…perhaps erased it from my memory, but I know I have seen this. If memory serves it was done sitcom style…one room with many doors with people walking on to cheers and laughter.

Seriously. I am sure George has locked this one up and hoped that people forgot about it…but can anyone find a clip…or the whole thing? Does anyone else remember this gem? Pure comedy!

Harvey fraking Korman!

Dear God… that is all I can say… sad… so sad…

The dance scene with Bea Arthur and Greedo made me laugh though…

This is interesting as well… could be cool, could be a complete failure… no middle ground for Star Wars…

Star Wars TV Spinoff…

<head explodes>

Thank you for locating!

There are copies of this that you can find at various cons on VHS. I have a copy. Yes I paid money for it. Please bring a straight jacket

But it is the first appearance of the Wookie homeworld, and is proof that the '70s were a time of too many drugs.

I saw this the one and only time it aired. This review sums it up pretty nicely, although I remember it for the cartoon segment that introduced Bobba Fett (this was before Empire.)

I saw this on TV as a kid. It’s also featured in Wierd Al’s White And Nerdy video.

I was given a copy of this about ten years ago or so, watched it once (okay, twice. Once by myself, and once with a friend who’d never seen it. I actually remember seeing this show when it first aired when I was five years old) and promptly buried it (I couldn’t find the VHS tape if I tried right now). It is beyond bad. The whole wookie soap opera, the inappropriately creepy “wookie porn,” the Empire that’s so evil that they’ll mess up your room and NOT clean it back up, Bea Arthur, Harvey Corman, Art Carney, Jefferson Starship!!! Not even the first appearance of Boba Fett (in a pretty crappy cartoon which is still the best part of the special) could save it. But the best part? The whole “Life Day” song sung by a Carrie Fisher so strung out on whatever drugs she happened to be on at the time that you can see the glaze in her eyes. (The one person I feel sorry for in the whole thing, though, is Mark Hamill, who’s covered in make-up to hide the scars from his recent reconstructive surgery after a car accident. He must have still been recuperating when they shot his scenes.)

It’s so bad, apparently, that rumor has it that George Lucas himself has collected as many extant copies of the thing as he’s been able to and either buried them deep within the Lucasfilm archives or simply destroyed them, depending on who’s telling the story.

Never seen it, don’t plan on seeing it, never want to see it. No good can come of it.

Dear sweet mericful Lord - I blocked this out. Maybe she was possesed…by a Sith…yes, yes that HAS to be it…

shivers

OMG…I just started reading the comments on youtube…I am crying with laughter. Some are obviously 12 year old boys, but the rest are priceless.

Wow that explains why sometimes I see clips of Starwars footage that I don’t recognize . . . they were all in this christmas special . . . Thanks.

Yeah. Or maybe, to paraphrase Danny Devito as Frank Reynolds (in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”): “she’s a crackhead, children.”

The cuts are rough - but at least this took the taste out of my mouth…

LOL… I always love this video…

Did you notice Admiral Caine at the helm… Yes, she is now and forever Admiral Caine…

OH… and this reminds me…

Does anyone remember a crossover story that was circulating the BBS net back in the early days of CompuServe?

It was in parts, and I could only ever get the first two parts… It was phenomenal though…

It had a great interaction between Vader and Picard where Vader picks Picard up (through the viewscreen using the force) and starts choking him, and Deanna has to step in and disrupt his use of the force… LOL… classic…

I’ve seen about the first 15 minutes of it, but I had to quit during the 10 minute dialogue scene between Chewie’s family. We all love wookiees, but that’s a bit much. There’s a lot of great quotes by George Lucas about wanting to hunt down every pirated copy of this and smash them with a hammer. A Golden Girl should not be starting a congo line in the Mos Eisley cantina. It’s supposed to be a hive of scum and villany.
