purity? an interesting word to use. I’d see it more as he’s ambivalent about genetic engineering.
(and in Trek world? let’s look at Khan et al, and then later the issues Bashir had to deal with…)

Troi: “I find him very “reasonable””
Ooh yeah, I wish she found me reasonable.
Would Georgi’s eyes really get tired? It’s not like he’s actually using them.
And Geordi making the anti-abortion argument. This episode’s kinda preachy.
Geordi, you’re throwing her whole world into disarray!
Rick Berman agrees.
“It’s a very philosophical issue that we felt seriously about, and a show that I thought was disappointing and didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped. It was slow and talky and we had casting problems. As for the abortion issue, that’s nonsense. It was totally unintended. I think that there are very few people on our writing staff who would be involved with something that would be a non-choice outlook.”
SCRIPT:
Geordi: Something about abortion then 45 seconds of TECHNOBABBLE.
Geez ppl, get a movie theater.
I meant in the sense of pure, unadulterated human genetics as opposed to “engineered” (and almost certainly modified to some degree).
(and in Trek world? let’s look at Khan et al, and then later the issues Bashir had to deal with…)
The Trekverse isn’t a fan of the Übermensch.
He spoiled her milk!
And on what Berman said - I think Geordi’s making an anti-abortion argument insofar as abortion is a procedure used against the will of the mother in order to maintain certain societal norms. Kind of like the ideas behind the forced sterilization of Puerto Rican women earlier in the 20th century… sure, they’re using reproductive technologies as tools for oppression. It’s not an argument you see in American society today (at least, not that I’m aware of).
Also, I <3 Trek! “very few people on our writing staff who would be involved wtih something that would be a non-choice outlook” warms my heart.
Sketchy administrator plus flirting with Troy with Chopin in the background? I totally know where this is going
No no, that was a different ep.
Terribly wrong, yet you do it! STOP! mine eyes!
Must’ve been based on the Bill Clinton leadership genome… TOPICAL HUMOR BABY!
“Enginnering crews? Okay, but no boinking with the locals.”
Just browsing through the episodes I’ve missed recently… some good ones! I think I’ll have to make time for a personal rewatch of some of my favorites of them.
lol, I just noticed that the “earthquakes” sound much like someone shaking a cookie sheet just off camera.
I don’t see what they’re doing as a form of oppression, but they obviously favor some kinds of people over others. And that certainly does happen in our society. Prenatal testing has definitely caused a small — but not insignificant — increase in abortions due to defects (real or perceived).
Gods Deanna Troi gets more nooky than Jim Kirk ever did. Empath my sBarb, she’s just horny as hell!
I like to imagine that spoiled milk can solve any problem.
