Star Trek: The Motion Picture Frak Party 3/26 @ 10 PM ET

James Doohan looks so young

It’s beautiful, though. And so begins one of the many critiques on this film. It’s beautifully filmed but is boring. It’s like watching a documentary without a Morgan Freeman voice-over.

This movie really captures the true boredom of long distance space travel.

I’m not rewatching the movie right now, but that did seem pretty anachronistic when I watched it the first time.

At least in Red Mars they got to have sex during the interminable travel…

Kirk was an admiral?

Nah. It was always the other way around for me.

Well, you have to understand that when this movie came out Trek fans were STARVING for Star Trek. So a long, slow shuttle ride examining ever inch of the beloved Enterprise was really just what we wanted at the time.

Same for me (should surprise no one that Talos and I are on the same page on such things)

And alive.

You’re right! That’s exactly what’s missing! Wonder if they could get him for a special edition? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, not at the time, of course. I remember thinking how odd it was to hear this music with Next Gen when that started, but I really associate the music with them now, even if it was really the other way around.

Oh, these young kids. :stuck_out_tongue:

The only starship 3 days from Earth is the Enterprise? Who the hell is defending earth?!

It establishes the love affair between Kirk and the Enterprise. Scotty is the third wheel.

He was an Admiral, yes.

Yeah, that’s a plot point that always bothered me.

And it’s a problem in Star Trek Nemesis

And the new Star Trek movie too.

Deep Space Epsillion 9

Warp Core. Sweet.

Will Decker…Commodore Matt Decker’s little boy

Yeoman Rand! No mini skirt!!

The blond transporter tech is Janice Rand.
