Star Trek Deep Space Nine

I figured this was a really good transition to the next arc as it shares many qualities from BSG, aside from Ronald D. Moore

Audra’s always talkin about it anyway in relation to BSG and even Star Wars. Totally loved the throwdown when Sisko was compared to Jar Jar. (My heart sobbed when i heard that chillin comparison)

As a DS9 fan (and I get a lot of flack for it too), I would love to see this.

Just an idea among loads of others. But, hey we got loads of time.

Completely agree. I never figured out when the eps aired during the original run. Catching up, sorta, via the Spike butt-crack (sorry Barb) of the middle of the night reruns. I say sorta 'cause they’re aired out of sequence. A special place in hell (sorry Barb) for those responsible for airing stuff out of sequence I tell ya.

I think this the best podcast arc suggestion yet  I started coming here for the BSG podcasts and peek the forum for some sci-fi news and goodness. I haven’t exactly been feeding my BSG withdrawl with the non-bsg podcasts (I’m getting a good fix from DrWho lately tho) but a DS9 arc with BSG comparisons would be something I would tune definitely into  I just really want some BSG-related stuff… not replacements. Two opposable thumbs up.

The Dominion arc had some of the best ST storylines I ever saw from the post Rodenberry camp.

I’m still hoping Avery Books shows up to guest on BSG (I wonder if the bulldog role was meant for him… I heard Dennis Haysbert was in consideration for it as well.)

As a DS9 fan (and I get a lot of flack for it too), I would love to see this.

Look in the Start Trek section of the Board and read the best series poll. DS9 is pwning the other series. I’d digg a DS9 or DS9 TNG combo arc. Heck even a plain old ST arc could be fun. Lots to talk about with New Voyages and the movie coming out.

As someone who is currently devouring DS9 for the first time, yay! Maybe watching/podcasting all 7 seasons would be much (it’s taken me 2 weeks to get to season 3, and I’ve been watching it a lot of my free time), perhaps there could be a “awesome arcs” bit from DS9.

This is a fantastic idea. I really love Deep Space Nine.

For a smaller arc, the first six episodes of season six tells a related continuing story.

The last 10 episodes of the series are also one long arc.

Of course, I’d love to do a re-watch of everything too, but that would be 176 podcasts.

That would be a lot of podcasts. And since DS9 ruled my life for June and most of July, well, yeah. There’s a lot out there. But some of the arcs in the later seasons would be quite manageable.

Yeah, I like BSG and Babylon 5 so it should be no surprise that I like this too, and would totally be down for a few episode arc.

I love DS9… even tho at the time of B5’s running, i despised DS9… I even watched Voyager before I finally gave into DS9 and realized what i fool I was.

Nothing against B5, but in terms of rewatching, I actually do prefer DS9… Mainly because of Dukat I guess.

If we do a DS9 arc, maybe we’d do one all about Dukat. There is 30 episodes that had Dukat, perhaps only a few where he didn’t just appear on some display monitor. Dukat and Sisko rivalry is an awesome arc.

accidental repost… don’t even know how this happened.

We know it’s not realistic to do a podcast arc on the whole series since it is very long, but I think it would be totally doable to set up a DS9 area within the Trek area and have different threads for each season. I have been toying with the idea of a complete rewatch for a while now (I have friends with the whole series on DVD, lucky me) so having some GWC companionship as I do it would be awesome.

Aw man! I just did the watch this summer… and it’s a massively long (re) watch.

That said, I think that would be teh awesomeness. But I also think that it would be awesome to have a few choice episodes with podcasts dedicated to them. Hmmm…

Please push for Duet. I promise not to call in, if that will help.

I’ve never actually properly followed a Star Trek show before (partly due to the stigma attached with people I know) but I think an arc like this would give me no excuse but to watch it. I’ve heard DS9 is the best and most intelligent so I would be up for it. Does it take a while to get going though (it has been pentioned in the podcast that NG takes a while to get going).

Everything they say about Mission at Farpoint is true. And about the first season in general. But if you watch some of the eps from the early years in reruns they are deliciously, rather than painfully, bad. I love Tasha Yar, too.

To push my own DS9 Dukat arc agenda… Here is my list:

1x01 “Emissary”
1x19 “Duet”
2x05 “Cardassians” - i dumped “the Home Coming”
2x20 “The Maquis”, Part I/Part II - I dumped Necessary Evil, watch it for fun though. The Maquis perhaps not my favorite episodes, but is important to the Dukat character.
3x07 “Civil Defense”
3x09 “Defiant” - some fun for the TNG fans also.
4x01 “The Way of the Warrior” - I skipped “Explorers” because Dukat does not play an important role, but it is one of the great father/son story.
4x05 “Indiscretion”
4x14 “Return to Grace”
5x08 “Things Past” - I skipped “Apocalypse Rising”, reason being I don’t think Dukat was that important in that episode. It was a fine episode tho.
5x14 “In Purgatory’s Shadow”
5x15 “By Inferno’s Light”
5x19 “Ties of Blood and Water” - i was thinking of leaving this one out… but Dukat/Weyoun interaction was a lot of fun.
5x26 “Call to Arms”
6x05 “Favor the Bold” - I skipped “A Time to Stand”, and “Sons and Daughters”, “Behind the Lines”, they have great Dukat Kira stories, but they are more towards Kira than Dukat, and nothing Dukat did hasn’t been done before. They really should be included, but I am trying to cut down the list to a managable size.
6x06 “Sacrifice of Angels”
6x11 “Waltz” - my personal favorite of DS9 episodes.
6x17 “Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night”
7x09 “Covenant” - I skipped “Tears of the Prophets”, blasphemy, i know. But Dukat’s conversion to his Pah-wraiths belief is much more interesting in Covenant. In Tears of the Prophets, he was kind of mindless. Besides, the death of Jadzia probably is one of the most hated scene in DS9 history.
6x13 “Far Beyond the Stars” - I left out “Penumbra”, “'Til Death Do Us Part”, “Strange Bedfellows”, “The Changing Face of Evil”, “When It Rains…”, and “What You Leave Behind” . I didn’t enjoy the rest of Dukat arc, since after Covenant he was a bit too one-dimentional, besides, finale should be watched with the rest of the serie. Maybe he wasn’t important in Far Beyond the Stars either, but how can you watch DS9 without watching this episode?

That’d be 20 episodes…

To shorten that list even more, I’d go with:

1x01 “Emissary”
1x19 “Duet”
3x07 “Civil Defense”
4x05 “Indiscretion”
4x14 “Return to Grace”
5x08 “Things Past”
5x15 “By Inferno’s Light”
5x26 “Call to Arms”
6x06 “Sacrifice of Angels”
6x11 “Waltz” - my personal favorite of DS9 episodes.
6x17 “Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night”
6x13 “Far Beyond the Stars”

Reason for putting Far Beyond the Stars at the end is it isn’t really a Dukat story.

That’d be just 10 episodes, without Far Beyond the Stars, it’d be 9.

I am here to propose another DS9 Re-Watch list. This time the focus is “Least Sci-fi-ish Scifi”.

Scifi is wonderful because it provides a way to tell stories without much of of the real world limitations. It can tell a story outside the box and allow us to examine ourselves and our thinking from another angle.

But sometime, the genre of Scifi itself becomes a box, and the formulaicness of some scifi prevented good story telling. I think Battlestar Galactica received such popular support, because it broke away from a lot of stigma attached to the scifi genre.

So to honor Ron Moore and Ira Steven Behr, I think this list also represents what DS9 and scifi is all about.

4x03 The Visitor
4x06 Rejoined
6x13 Far Beyond the Stars

== there are many others I like to add to the list. But I’ll just settle for these two. One is extremely serious. One is just fun as heck.

1x19 Duet
5x25 In the Cards

I’d be onboard for a DS9 rewatch - favorite series out of all of them. (except that episode with the flakey skin people)

That’s a really cool idea, doing a re-watch on The Forum. I would totally be down with that

How many other people would be interested?

 Too true. Their hair was pretty scary, too.
