“It’s hard to work for someone who’s a religious icon.”
So I guess we’re a week behind, then. Netflix instant watch, engage!
Of course, both peace and war are good for business. oh quark
ah, vague religious prophecies. interpretation’s tricky.
I like that we see something more than the Guls and the Obsidian Order (at least as far as we know at this point in the episode ) from Cardassian society. They’re less mustache-twirling villain for it.
Ah, it was on purpose.
The prospect of introducing two sympathetic Cardassians was done as a way of showing there are different kinds of people in Cardassian society. As Robert Hewitt Wolfe explains, “At the height of the Cold War with the Soviet Union, there were sympathetic scientists, people we could work with and talk to.” (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 211)
And now O’Brien’s going to get defensive about his work?
Our prophecy dude is a “heretic”
ha
One of the reasons DS9 is my favorite Star Trek series is the continual tension between people living their faith and people who doubt the validity of faith itself. That there is growth for all of them in the course of the series I think is fabulous.
So cute! Dax talking about literature with the awesome Cardassian scientists! I would love to hang out with them, too. Before Dejar shows up, though.
“better” than the average Cardassian? surely, better than members of the Obsidian Order.
We never really get to meet the average Cardassian, though, do we?
“Do you really believe I’m the Emissary?”
“I guess I always have. But I’ve never wanted to admit it to myself.” [Smiles] “It’s hard to work for someone who’s a religious icon.”
oh Sisko. “I don’t see myself as an icon, religious or otherwise.” Yet he recognizes the power of icons, look at him taking on the role of Gabriel Bell.
an ancient text that’s been translated and retranslated over the centuries.
Ah, yes. One must avoid literalism
fun role reversal there - that men just don’t have the head for science and engineering on Cardassia. Tee hee. Paging Larry Summers…
and… action! uh oh…
“just enough truth in some of them to make me wonder”
still small voice
Ah, hello Obsidian Order.
And Kira is seeing that the prophecy was true, just misinterpreted
Well I liked that one. Yay.
