Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 3x12 Past Tense, Part II

Tuesday, 22 May 2012
11 PM Eastern - 8 PM Pacific

“You know, Commander, having seen a little of the
21st Century, there is one thing I don’t understand:
How could they have let things get so bad?”

Aw, Badger took the closing quote for the banner. Sisko responds to Bashir’s question, “That’s a good question. I wish I had an answer.”

This episode aired the same day as the Voyager premiere two-parter.

Which I believe is up next week. Which is cool, but also kinda sad because I like the all DS9 all the time bit. Even though I’m usually watching more or less alone :frowning: glad you’re here, though!

Yeah. I keep breaking the promise I made to myself to at least engage in Trek Tuesday. I’ve been so busy at work, I just need something for myself.

And for more production info, this is the last Frakes-directed DS9 episode.

ok starting (I know I’m a minute early but I don’t want to wait anymore!)

Previously, on…

I’m not sure I buy the producer comments on BC not being a cold-blooded murderer.

I don’t think so. He’s just a desperate man who is pissed off.

Interesting dynamic to the hostage scene. BC isn’t as dumb as he pretends to be

He is, but he shanked the real Gabriel Bell for his meal card. So… yeah still not buying it.

this episode

received some criticism for being too preachy, liberal and soapboxy

so… like all of star trek?

“When you treat people like animals you’re gonna get bit” - BC

Yeah. He is written well. As Behr said, “treat people like animals, they will act like animals.” What would BC be if not in this situation?

So this is supposed to be them at the same time and place as Kirk and Spock in City on the Edge of Forever

Say that when you and the ones you love haven’t eaten for weeks and wind up in the same situation.

Yeah. I didn’t know that. Nice touch with the same Boxing sign.

They show up in 1930 and 1967.

Those were some crazy eyes. And that cop guy (Vin?) is a jerkface.

But he’s clearly in the whole thing just for himself. No family, no friends. Plus I want to think better of humanity.

That’s Dick Miller. He was in Gremlins and Amazing Stories. He always plays a jerk. He’s great at it.

Sisko’s Starfleet experience is quite obvious in how he handled that negotiation.
