Star Trek annoying poll Bracket 1

network will not upload the poll… AGAIN!!!

roosterpfunk69 couldn’t get the polls uploaded, i thought I give it a try.

Neelix and Wesley were leading the Most annoying Trek character poll. It is time for Bracket match with two challengers.

In This bracket we have Neelix and Keiko O’Brien. Who is the more annoying Trek character?

Stop whining Keiko, you’re bringing down the room. :stuck_out_tongue:

i’ll say my position here…

i had to learn to love Neelix. But as time went on, he became increasingly lovable. He’s great with children. He’s usually optimistic. He keeps on trying even when people talk down to him. And I really think he eventually became a valuable member of the crew.

on the other hand i had to learn to loath Keiko. At first she was one of the few Asians to be on TNG. Her lover’s spat with O’brien seems innocent love story. But as time went on, her whining and kicking O’brien when he is down really drives me crazy…

There is no one concrete event that marks Keiko’s turn to the dark side… hmm… well, there’s room for debate for that. But Keiko’s whining lasted 2 trek series, TWO…

so Neelix’s got nothing on Keiko on annoyance, in my mind.

Using Keiko’s name to test on forum unicode support ???.

Have to go with Neelix… had to deal with him in EVERY episode. That’s 7 years of annoying as opposed to Keiko’s being a minor character in less then 2% of the TNG an DS9 episodes.

I merged RPfunk’s original thread with this one to keep things tidy.

Oh good, I was about to do the same.

oh wow, this is a lot closer than i thought it would be…

Neelix for sure, at least Keiko’s easy on the eyes, and doesn’t mind a hefty Irishman!

i am sure Neelix doesn’t mind a hefty Irisman either…

Neelix prefers Vulcans and cradle robbing. d:

I voted Keiko most annoying.
“Do you want some cheese with that whine?”

But gotta agree with roosterpfunk - every frakking episode…

I think he prefers White Russians.

Neelix would have been a great character if they had used him the way he was supposed to be used. They set him up to be a black market wheeler-dealer who had a shady past and unclear motives.

But the writers NERFED him and turned him into a comic relief character, which I resented… I would have made him a cross between Quark/ Radar O’Reilly and Garak, his bumbling and awkwardness would have been a sham to put people at ease and make him appear harmless. He would always help the crew so long as it was in his best interests to do so, his motives would always be unclear and the audience would always wonder who was gaining the most from every transaction.

In Neelix’s defense I will offer this: At least Neelix had an arc! Keiko never developed as a character, she never grew or proved herself useful in any way. Neelix on the other hand grew a backbone, and even Tuvok grew to respect him by the final season. Neelix was useful in many different ways around the ship, trading for goods, getting directions, negotiating for ‘right of passage’, running the galley, and babysitting Naomi Wildman. What did Keiko ever do that effected the outcome of a story? Nothing that I can think of…

To me what is most annoying is that neither character were ever used effectively, I vote for Keiko because she served no real purpose. She was a throwaway character, and she was literally thrownaway on a few ocassions. She was gone so long that you could have had another actress show up to play her and I doubt anyone would have noticed.:stuck_out_tongue:

Keiko is a bit part, rarley seen if you take the two shows as wholes. She shouldn’t have an arc… she exisits to effect Miles. She is a simple character. Her level of annoying canot compare with Neelix. Keiko only appears in 19 of 140 something episodes of ds9, and 9 out of TNG. Also, in most of those episodes, she hs less than three mins of screen time… how can that even compare to neelix? What do you expect from a character that is practicaly a glorified red shirt. The arguemnet that she has no purpose is kinda crazy… she is a minoe character. She serves about as much purpose as “Crewman Kyle” from TOS, or Obrien did in most of TNG. It’s called “be a warm body for the stars to talk to”

Neelix had to run his mouth in EVERY episode of Voyager. If you hate Keiko… you only have to hate her for the 30 secs she is in the scene… maybe… if she is even in the episode.

Lets Close the poll in 48 Hours! May the worst one win!
