Star Trek 3x24 Turnabout Intruder

very non-homophobic for Shat to flirt with Dr Coleman–in the 60s, that is

very nicely done

her life could have been as rich as any woman’s? seriously, I shouldn’t be surprised at all, particularly the “where no man has gone before” bit but nonetheless, sad.

From the folks at Memory Alpha:

Lester’s remark to Kirk, that his world of Starfleet captains did not admit women to their ranks, implies the Starfleet culture of the 2260s was more sexist than its 22nd or 24th century counterparts. An interpretation offered by the Star Trek Chronology suggests Lester’s comment referred to Kirk’s inability to maintain a relationship, due to his responsibilities as a starship captain. Gene Roddenberry, on the other hand, has gone on record as stating that the line was purely sexist.

Interestingly, it seems that by the 2280s, the bias against women commanding starships had been corrected. In the early scenes of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, a woman is shown to be in command of the Miranda-class USS Saratoga.

and so ends our original five-year…I mean three-year mission. next week–the animated series!!

In the ultimate ret-con, the Enterprise series of course had plenty of female Starship captains.

Sulu is ALWAYS fabulous!

The power of mime!

“It’s not gay if I’m a woman on the inside, baby.”

cool beans, and TAS is available online right? I don’t think my library has it…

and I’m off to watch all our yesterdays

So say we all!!

te he he.
Awesome

But it’s true! If not for her uppity aspirations, she could have enjoyed a life of cooking, cleaning, knitting, and birthing of babies! If she was lucky, she might even have had the honor of loving and obeying a man who hardly ever beat her!

A shame really, to give all of that up…

By the way,

Here’s a Trek book I recommend. It’s a sequel to All of Our Yesterdays:

Man, McCoy must have really been out of it.

I was just recently reading Shatner’s autobiography ‘Up Till Now’. One of his earliest acting gigs, he was invited to dinner by one of the well-known actors in a play they were working on. Shatner didn’t have a dinner jacket so the guy said, “I have one in my hotel room.”

As Shatner puts it:

"Welcome to show business, Shatner. The strongest memory I have of that night is being chased around the bed. Incredibly I didn’t know what he wanted. I was unaware of homosexuality. It was not spoke about in middle-class Jewish homes.

What happened that night changed my attitude toward woman for the rest of my life. I understood the anger and frustration that a woman feels when she says no, she means no, and the man believes she is saying yes."

And clearly, that understanding assisted his performance in this episode.

No matter how awesome Shatner is, his depiction of Janice Lester is probably one of his most ridiculous roles ever. Over the top, even for him.

But still Shatastic!

Probably in the R-rated deleted scenes.

Well, I know I should get all nostalgic and sentimental here at the end of Star Trek TOS. But sleep calls.
I declare to all Trek Tarts everywhere: Thanks for all the fun!!

And Good night.

Shatner goes to 11!

Good night, Thot. I trust you’ll be joining us for TAS next week?

I hope so. If a miss it, I’ll be cuz I’m doing something I’d rather not be doing (most likely).
