That sounds like a retcon to me. I think it was established fact that women couldn’t be starship captains in the 23rd century. Later social changes in the real world made that unacceptable.
That doesn’t have to result in hatred of “womanhood” but rather a rather reasonable disgust for the constructs that allow men to dominate this world (and the future one). IMHO
It was the 1960s don’t forget, still I know it’s cringe-worthy
