Charles Napier (playing Adam) wrote some of the songs he sings in this episode. As Pike mentioned…sort of…earlier Napier has appeared as Good Ole Boys front man Tucker McElroy in “The Blues Brothers”.

He appears in Star Trek again, in DS9: “Little Green Men”, where he plays Rex Denning.

The character of Irina Galliulin was originally to be Joanna McCoy, daughter of Dr. McCoy, and to be a love interest for Captain Kirk.
