This book covers Kirk as a Lieutenant on the Faragutt when he first deals with the attack of the creature in this episode.
The line “I never faced death” in Wrath of Khan, ain’t so true in some ways. Kirk saw quite a bit of death in his life and career.
I re-read this trilogy of books recently, and then sent 'em to Talos.
I don’t know if he’s read 'em yet.
