Damn. Thinking about the critters at the end reminded me of this toy from the seventies. It was just a pipe-cleaner-like worm with a thin fishing line attached. You would wind the line around a button and then weave your fingers and hands through to make it look like the thing was crawling over you. Anyone remember what that was called?
At first, I had no idea what you were talking about. And then, all of a sudden, I remembered them vividly. Weird.
And yet, I couldn’t recall what they were called either. 
But I know Search Fu.
