Star Trek 1x28 The City on the Edge of Forever 2/20 @ 10 PM ET

OK. But this was the one mechanism out of Kirk’s control or reach. He had no way to manipulate or control the Guardian. Spock did not have access to the Guardian, etc. As soon as Edith died, they jumped through the portal. That was the Guardian, not Kirk and crew. They were at the behest of the Guardian and they chose that.

That being said, there is nothing stopping Kirk from breaking Time Travel Prime Directives that haven’t been invented yet and grabbing the Guardian by its…whutever…and robbing Edith from the past.

I never saw it like that. The Guardian didn’t really care one way or the other, IMO. Otherwise, it would have prevented the change in the first place. I think they came back because they went back through the same portal that they originally travelled through, not because they completed some kind of mission.

Spock et al. were protected from the change while they were in the past, but something (never explained) changed the past. Yet the Guardian brought Spock back, despite him never traveling to the past.

Pikes head explodes

But it was a mission. Sure the Guardian was indifferent but Kirk and crew had to stop McCoy from saving her. It’s not clear what happens after Edith dies. I always thot the Guardian returned them right after that moment, renewing the timeline like they were never there.

Then again, you may be right because under my scenario the Guardian would have just spit out McCoy after McCoy jumped in.

phtwuey You don’t belong here.”

However, why allow any one to pass through in the first place? ouch my head…

Here is how Ellison’s treatment ended:

The scene then fades out, and we cut to an angle on the Enterprise orbiting the planet of the guardians to show that time has returned to normal.

On the Plateau of The Guardians, Kirk and Spock drag Beckwith back through the portal. Time has been restored, it is now as it was before.

Suddenly Beckwith twists free, jumps into the Vortex, but the Guardians cause him to appear in the heart of a sun a split second before it goes nova.

Beckwith screams in agony as the sun novas.

Time loops back a few seconds, Beckwith appears in the nova.

Beckwith screams in agony as the sun novas.

Time loops back.

Beckwith screams in agony as the sun novas.

Time loops back…

The Guardians tell Kirk and Spock that Beckwith will live his final moment of agony over and over throughout all of eternity.

Apparently, the Guardian has a mind of its own and it’s sinister. That would explain a bunch.

Not to mention that Beckwith really got the worst punishment ever.

Nancy Reagan would be happy.

Beckwith was a drug dealer.

Trivia: Nancy Reagan was Sarek’s second human wife.

You really hurt my brain with that one.

Jane Wyatt…Jane Wyman…

Oops. I thought they were the same person. :o

You know, they all look alike to me.
