Disruptors were associated with the bad guys. They hurt more. Romulans, Klingons, Gorn…

They’ve only explored a relatively small portion of the galaxy by this point. Even by time of DS9, only the Alpha Quadrant was “known space”.

That has changed over time. I was just answering for TOS. There is a technically difference between them. I believe Phasers can be linked together into an array while disrupters have more powerful output.
Bring 'em on. I love talking about Trek. It’s about the only thing I know. I’m a Trek scholar. Too bad I can’t make any money with that knowledge.

Not to speak for anyone else, but I think it’s safe to say that we all love Trek. Anything that can help someone else learn to love it is never a hardship.
