ST:The Next Generation - A Matter Of Honor 2X08 3/30 @ 11PM ET

They wanted to change them from face-less villains as portrayed in TOS and give them more depth. Someone (I don’t remember who) wanted to model them after the Japanese Samurai. That’s where all the honor business comes from. They made Worf an orphan who lived among humans, he really knew nothing about his culture except what he read. Worf’s storyline is one of my favorites in Trekdom.

I’d have to say either the Doctor or Data were my favorites. Classic Pinocchio tales both.

Hmm… Kinda…But I feel like I had pretty clear vision of who the Klingons were before this episode. And years before TNG. Maybe it defined Klingons for the Next Gen audience.

Yeah. It’s often said that the Doctor and Data are the Spock characters because they are trying to be human. IMO Seven and Worf are more like Spock. Spock defined the Vulcan race even though he was an outsider. Worf and Seven were orphaned from their race and then interacted with them from the outside. As they learned, we learned.

OK, WWJTKD? When the Klingon vessel decloaked at the beginning of the episode, he’d tell them that he was transporting the first officer over. Instead, it would be a photon torpedo. And then he’d make a silly quip and the bridge crew would laugh, as the Enterprise speeds away from the burning wreckage.

Here’s book a really loved. And it defined Klingons for me.

True, but they were helping to define alien races. The Doctor and Data were struggling to understand the human condition, something we can all relate to, from an outside perspective, something we can’t. I just always found that idea fascinating.

Kirk would steal the Klingon ship, take it around the Sun and go back in time to 1986, steal two humpback whales, bang a whale biologist and return to the 23rd century with a wealth of whale meat and lantern oil.

(Ooo, maybe not that last bit?)

Please see my other post about face-less villains and Samurai.

WWJTKD? Kirk would have transported over to the Klingon vessel and offered himself to the Klingon bastards. He would have pleaded that they had a hull-eating thing but they wouldn’t have listened. He would then single-handedly judo chopped, flying scissor kicked, and tumble-rolled their Klingon butts all over the bridge. Kirk would have planted a grenade in the section of the ship with the parasite and sealed the rest off. Then detonate the grenade. The hull would float into space. The Klingon ship would be saved. Scotty would beam Kirk off the ship as soon as the Klingons woke up.

I’ve never read that. putting it on list

Ah, I see your point. Yes, I think the below decks meal time scene with Riker helped shed a new face on Klingons. Agreed.

Love your, WWJTK do!

Okay. Sleepy time for me guys.
This was fun! Good nite.

Why is yours the only scenario where Kirk saves the Klingons? You know he could never trust them. Not after they killed the son that he’d just met.

What do you think about a thread for WWJTKD? We (well, we meaning the mods sorry Thot) could move these posts into that thread. Might be funny to read all together.

NIte Thot.

Just trying to keep with the plot.

So, what should we do about V stepping on Trek Tuesday?

We could compile them and copy them over, but it’s probably easier to understand if we keep them with the source material. Still, I think a broader WWJTKD? game is definitely in order.

I don’t know. It wasn’t a problem before, because of Jay Leno’s ill-conceived show. I like that they’re airing it at 10, since we’ll get somewhat more adult storylines of greater complexity, but yeah, the overlap is killing us.

Maybe cut it back to just one episode at 11? I just don’t know.

If the ratings continue to tank, it might not be a problem for long. :frowning:

You’re right. Better to keep them here in context but we should start the game. Now for a witty beginning to this bold adventure…

Well, I’m ok with Wednesday or Thursday. But it kinda makes a mess.

Wednesday at 8 works, although we’re unlikely to get anyone else but the two of us involved. Thursday at 10 is probably the easiest for now.

What do you think?

Thursday at 10 Sounds like a plan. Our Trektarts have been remiss. Where art thou, Trektarts?
