ST:The Next Generation 4X15 First Contact - 10/21 @ 10PM ET

Trek Tuesday-ish, October 21st, 2010
10 PM Eastern - 7 PM Pacific

“It’s far more likely that I’m a weather balloon than an alien.”

You can watch the episode on YouTube

I’ll be unable to join you guys tonight, since spouse is treating me to a fancy and romantic night out  have a great one, though

And you’d rather do that than spend time with us?

Have a great time.

Engage!

(I hope someone else shows up. :()

Ahh!!!

Riker’s a creepy alien!

I like how they forget the technology they have. The Enterprise can locate a tiny amount of platinum on Angel One but can’t find the only human on this planet?

“As you can see, we are physically quite different from Malcorians…”

Notice the lack of crap all over our foreheads, for instance. :stuck_out_tongue:

Brilliant commentary on YouTube.

[ul]
[li]‘These are specialists, highly-trained observation teams? superficially identical to yourselves and therefore able to blend naturally into your society… then we sent Riker and he fucked everything up’.
[/li]
[li]“As you can see we’re quite different physically and . . . with your permission . . . I’d like to prove it to you.” (long, pregnant pause) (breathlessly) “I would like that.”
[/li]Why doesn’t that ever make any of the Dirty Star? Trek reels?
[/ul]

Chancellors and scientists always get to meet the aliens.

Why doesn’t Star Fleet visit drunken rednecks like the little grey elves do?

The chancellor is a surprisingly thotfull man.

“This morning, I was the leader of the universe as I knew it. This afternoon, I’m only a voice in a chorus. But I think it was a good day.”

Somehow, I doubt many of our leaders would be as accepting of the reality of this situation.

“It’s not that easy. There are differences in the way my people make love.”
“I’m willing to learn.”

Riker pretty definitively scored here, so at least this experience wasn’t a total loss.

“…with arms open and eyes closed.”

Like Darmok and Jalaad, at Tanagra?

I find it sad that we never see Maraska again. She could have joined the crew or at least become a recurring character.

Sorry I missed this one, mate. One of my fav episodes. Wouldn’t mind refraking it at some point.
I wish there had been more of these first contact style episodes in Star Trek (all the series-es).

Is that actress the one who played Fraser’s wife in Cheers?

Agreed. A great character. The Carl Sagan of her world, kinda.

Great episode. We should reschedule.

I was thinking the same thing.

Is that actress the one who played Fraser’s wife in Cheers?

Yes. Bebe Neuwirth.

Agreed. A great character. The Carl Sagan of her world, kinda.

Exactly. The actress came back, of course, but I really liked this character.
