The chair that forms was done by reverse time-lapse of a melting wax chair.
“Don’t you see, Data? This is where I belong.”
So what happens when Tam dies?
OK, Picard’s and Riker’s slow-motion spin maneuver was quite possibly one of the silliest things in Trekdom.
Ack! Sorry I missed this one too. Also among my favs.
Heart-wrenching, intriguing etc etc.
Alright. The whole episode Riker and Picard have been giving Tam craaaap. Picard is also so flippant about Tin Man. They’ve established him as inquisitive and an explorer, etc. but he shows no interest in Tin Man. Data has to remind him.
Then in the ending, the “crazy” man know has this very powerful being. And the final line by Data. Does that make any sense? Data has never expressed not feeling like he belongs in Starfleet or on the Enterprise.
I don’t know. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.
Glad you could make it for the credits.
Those dang inertial dampers.
Yeah. That’s what I hear.
Hmm… those are all good points. Hmmph. Now I like the episode less.
That’s kinda the story of my life.
Awww, I didn’t mean to. For me, it feels like a fanfic where the author takes over the show/story. The crew takes a back seat and act very out of character to the guest star. Picard more than anyone else seem very peculiar.
Yeah, I agree with you there. Picard and Riker were downright douchey throughout the whole episode. I was more fascinated by the idea of Gomtuu and Tam Elbrun, than really thinking about the episode as a whole. You’re right, of course. Picard is prepared to allow his whole crew to die to save intelligent sand, but he’s uninterested in an ancient, powerful, and utterly unique alien species? That’s pretty unlikely. And Riker’s never discussed Tam with Deanna? If he had and still acted like that, he’s just a dick.
Then in the ending, the “crazy” man know has this very powerful being.
For one thing, there’s not a whole lot anyone can do about that. For another, I’m willing to accept at face value that Tam and Gomtuu completed each other in a fundamental, almost Pilot & Leviathan sort of way.
And the final line by Data. Does that make any sense? Data has never expressed not feeling like he belongs in Starfleet or on the Enterprise.
It’s an insight. We don’t necessarily have to read emotion into it.
No no, that’s all cool. It’s so interesting to rewatch these episodes again after so many years with a critical eye.
There was something that I remember being very fascinating about this episode…
Ah, that was it!! Thanks.
I agree. That’s why I said it feels like a fanfic. The supporting cast are more interesting and some of the main cast just act out of character.
Yeah, looking at it more critically, as Thot said, I have to agree with you.
Le sigh.
Well, now that 'talos has ruined one of my favorite episodes (I keed! I keed! :D), I need to get some sleep.
Good night, all.
If it’s any consolation, I actually did enjoy it this time around. As frak parties have proven, watching with friends improves the viewing experience.
I’m off to bed, as well.
Nite Thot. Nite Badger. Nite all.
