Split the Fleet: A team: Cavil; B team: Kobol

The Galactica should serve as the foundation of a partial fleet of volunteers designed on the suicide mission for the final confrontation of Cavil’s forces with the two-fold goals of rescuing Hera and putting an end to the Cylon threat.

This should serve as diversion for the remainder of the Fleet under the protection of the rebel baseship to make the trip back to Kobol.
Kobol is at least the only known planet provable of sustaining life.
These ships should have the supplies water etc thy need from the stripped Galactica and enough of them should have retrofitted FTLs so that the trip back to Kobol would be a lot faster than it was coming from there.

IF the Galactica is unsuccessful then this strategy gives the rest of humanity a fighting chance and a running head start.
Otherwise they are dead anyway.
“This is it. Time to Roll the Heard Six, We’ve got nowhere else to go”
I could see Lee making this decision at some point stepping in his father’s shoes one final time.

Humans and rebel Cylons head back to Kobol.
The cycle starts again

I’ve been hoping for a return to Kobol. But what does that do to the hope of finding the “real” Earth? Kobol can’t be Earth. But the above would make most sense for survival.

That assumes that finding the “real Earth” is the goal.
The opening credits say Galactica is looking for a “Home”
Assuming that that was Earth and that’s the end of Earth humanity needs a place to park. Many viewers are hoping that “our Earth” with the visible North American Continents will show up as a beacon of hope but I am one of those who believe that that was Earth and that was that. If I am wrong tan I’ll stand corrected.
Whatever remains of the Fleet cannot be floating around forever and even if the Cylon threat is gone, the resources would run out.
If its Kobol or nothing then it’s Kobol and all the arguments about it beign forbidden due to prophecy can airlocked at that point.
