Trek, no doubt… but then there this lil tidbit about Spider Man from Variety
Spider-Man is the latest tentpole to get the 3D treatment.
Columbia Pictures has decided to make the next installment, which follows Marvel superhero Peter Parker during the high school years, in 3D.
Studio has also dated the Marc Webb-helmed pic for July 3, 2012.
“Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D,” said Jeff Blake, chairman of Sony Pictures worldwide marketing & distribution.

I think Trek will win because it’ll be released 3 days earlier.
It may be hard to get people excited about Trek again after 3 years, but Abrams has a lot of pull and will try and fight for as many screens as he can. And he will do a mass marketing blitz like last time (oops, sorry I threw up a little in my mouth, bad memories) but if the film simply looks like more of the same he may have a hard fight for screens.
Spiderman has broader appeal than Trek and a much wider age demographic, and since it will be in 3D it will be probably be released like Avatar was. 2D, 3D and 3D Imax… And unless people become tired of comic book movies after Avengers, Capt. America, Thor, Iron Man 2, Jonah Hex, Solomon Kane etc. I think Spidey will win out because it is all new, kind of a ‘Ultimate Spiderman’ movie IYKWIM!
And Abrams will not be getting ANY money from me this time, I learned my lesson from his last travesty. Never again… (And I still insist it is a REBOOT)
Who says it’s not?

Really? Why? Star Trek is one of the most popular franchises of all time! Star Trek XI was coming off of 4 years since Enterprise ended. Star Trek XII will be coming off of 3 years since the last Trek movie, which was much more popular then Enterprise was.

Yes, it does have but also remember by 2012, in addition to there being a lot of comic book movies, there will be a lot of 3D movies! Might not be quite as big a deal as it is now.
This Star Trek is a much more polarizing franchise than the original one, and there are a lot of angry Trekkers out there who will not support this new reimagining. And because it is NEW it does not benefit from the long and proud history of the real franchise.
As for Spidey, yes I am worried about Comicbook movie fatigue as previously stated above. And 3D will be old news by 2012 (if there is still a human race around then:D) but who knows there may be NEW technologies to draw people into the theaters by then… 4D?

That has not been what I have seen, but I guess we will see.

If a 3D movie is done in real time, does that make it 4D? Hmmm, must consider.
Like 24 in 3D?
Exactly. Or the B5 episode, “Intersections in Real Time”.
Unfortunately, I don’t think a reboot movie could be a real time… Maybe a sequel.
