According to Variety…Spider man 4 movie is dead…Sony may be going the reboot route…
Sony’s decided to revamp the “Spider-Man” franchise by moving the story back to Spidey’s high school days for the fourth picture.
Sam Raimi’s no longer directing and Tobey Maguire won’t star.
They are rebooting.
Gah. I posted this on another thread, but looks like it’s “old” news.
I’m optimistic. Get Bendis in to write it, and just adapt some Ultimate Spider-Man.

Though I’d be pretty ok with them losing Kirsten Dunst too. After the first one she just didn’t fit for me.

I wasn’t crazy about her either. She’s supposed to be a model in the comics right? Dunst was too next girl-y.
But, what do I know? I preferred Jennifer Connelly over Liv Tyler for Betty Ross in Hulk.
As I’ve stated before, I stopped in the middle of the last movie expecting to come back, but never found the motivation. I almost feel compelled to go back and finish it just so I’ll understand how much of a train wreck it was. Almost…
spider-man 3 was practically meta the way it and the story were both about the pitfalls of hype.
i honestly don’t care much for venom, and i would hate to see him dragged out again in 2012 for another black suit plotline. part of me was upset by this news, but the third movie really closed off everything you need to know. they would practically have to start every plotline from scratch.
so let someone else do it, but i hope they do it justice.
i WOULD like a carnage movie someday, so i understand venom has to happen, but the way i see it, venom is what nearly killed spidey 3.
Too many villains and people meddling with Raimi is what killed it(though he’s not clear of blame for me). If Venom was done right that movie would of rocked. (and if they lost stuff like the terrible butler and so forth)
If they are gonna do high school again I think it’d be cool to do the ultimate spider-man version of Venom. It’s different enough and you could meld the features people loved from the original. Plus Carnage is awesome in that version too (would love the inevitable Venom movie spin-off)
Only one thing to do. Let Straczynski write the reboot!
