Spartacus

Are me & the Rev the only two GWC heads watching Starz’ Spartacus?

I know, from first look, it doesn’t seem like the kind of thing you need to watch. But you do. It’s popcorn TV, but it one of my favorite shows going. I’ve been watching the eps before I get to Caprica.

Lucy Lawless is the female lead, for starters. Sam Raimi’s one of the producers.

Yeah, the teasers make it look like 300: The TV Series. But once it hits its groove, it’s like 300 meets Rome meets Oz. It is rad.

You could skip the first two episodes and not miss anything.

I’m a week behind. Just watched “Whore.” Oh, snap.

All this badness is gonna catch up with them, right?

Not watching it myself, but I hear nothing but raves from the Slice of SciFi guys. I’ll prolly get the DVD.

Boredom + instant watch = a new fan of Spartacus.
Its 95% brutal violence and sex and 5% history and politics but I find it enjoyable. Certainly enjoying it more than Mad Men, even tho Mad Men has Christina Hendricks.

ETA: I keep waiting for him to scream out ‘I AM SPAARRTAACUUSSS!!1!!!11!!1!’

Every episode is like this: half-nekkid people scheme, bone, fight, frak, kill, and endure loss. And, no, technically, that’s not redundant. Half-nekkid is probably the least tantilizing aspect of it, but it makes for interesting scenery.

Characters you don’t like, you start to like (or respect). Characters you did like, you realize they’re not likeable. And it’s always shifting.

Plus, did I mention Lucy Lawless?

It’s also kind of impressive how much they do with not much budget.

Nope there are quite a few of us watching it. I tend not to catch it live so i cant Frak it but i do watch it every week and I really do like it.

I will be watching. I saw the first episode, but now have all the subsequent ones on my DVR. With Caprica, Lost, Bill Maher, and watching The Wire via Netflix something had to wait. I’m looking forward to it…

Nope not the only ones again! Whew! i just caught up the other day and now can’t wait for it to hit Netflix after Friday’s episode.

Will consider the DVDs for this. Does anyone know the length of this series? As in is it a mini-series, on going, etc.

Season 1 is 13 hourlong episodes. It’s been renewed for a second season, but Spartacus has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, so let’s hope it’s merely delayed.

I’ve just started watching it on Instant Watch. I’m two episodes in.

I like it in the same way I like most campy, violent things but I’m not as hooked yet as I am on say, Rome or True Blood. I’m gonna keep on with it, though, since I’ve heard the most recent episodes are pretty damn good (if still campy as hell).

Am I the only one who honestly does not like Spartacus so far? He’s a complete failbot. At least he’s pretty.

You’re past the rough patch. Now it starts getting good.

Yes, Spartacus is not the coolest cat in the coliseum.

It’s not quite up there with True Blood – it’s not as fun – but it’s worth sticking with.

For some reason his inflexibility is endearing to me, it makes me want to see him succeed rather than just letting the story go where it will (which is what I normally do). Oddly enough I like it more than True Blood (even tho I think that was a better show). True Blood wrapped up so nicely I have no desire to see another season of it. I think Im going to be enjoying Spartacus for a while.

Spartacus does test your commitment to his character. But rooting for hiim is enjoyable. I can’t believe I’m becoming a Crixus fan.

Inevitable I think, considering his role in the subsequent war.

Not complaining when I say this: I wonder if anybody or anything will be left for season 2.

Not totally serious with this theory, but I think the only people who’ll survive season 1 are Spartacus and Lucy Lawless. And probably, much to my chagrin, the dick Roman commander’s wife, Ilithyia.

Unfortunately history dictates that the wives would be worthless chattel w/out the husbands. I’m pulling for Glaber to lose his wife as Spartacus lost his. Batiatus is so slimy he could slither his way into next season!

But then again, the producers said characters you think are very important could die at any time. I had always felt that if Sparty killed Batty then Solonius would end up with Lucretia and the Ludus…and oh well.
