Spam on the Forum

I’m sure some of you have noticed spam posts on the forum lately. The web is being hit with a major wave of spammer activity on forums coming out of Europe. Most of these messages are being generated by spambots, automated software to post the messages.

This morning I found a spammer online and sending private messages. I banned them as quickly as I could but some messages got through. I apologize for the inconvenience. Or maybe I should say annoyance. We try to get the posts removed as quickly as possible but occasionally some get through since we’re just human and have to sleep and work.

If you see a post that appears to be spam, please report it using the Report Post button (triangle with exclamation point) found in the lower left side of the screen under the user name. This will send an email to all of the Moderators.

How should we handle future PM spam? There’s no report button on it.

Send a PM to me or one of the other Moderators with the member’s name and it will get dealt with ASAP. If you get a Visitor Message, that does have the Report button.

I noticed on theis little forum a few friends I hang out at that the online users were outnumbered by “guests” at a rate of 14 to 6, so yeah, I’m none too surprised. Deleted a PM that got through. Thanks for your time and effort in trying to stop the robots from rampaging on us.

I received a PM from a spammer this morning. It was no big deal but I didn’t know if I should delete it or if the moderators needed me to keep it around for any reason. So in the future should I just delete it right away?

Please report the message so we can ban the user.

Correction to my previous post on reporting PM spam. When viewing a PM the Report button is in the bar on the upper right hand side of your screen.

What Solai says…Report it! And then delete it.

Thanks. It just isn’t in the same place as forum posts so I missed it the first time around.

You and me both!

I don’t like SPAM!

Thank you, to all the moderators for all the work you do to keep this place the nice community it is.

Most of your hardest work is completely invisible to us, the alpaca, but we know you are there doing your best.

Just wanted to say thanks for your effort.

You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it.

the few. the proud. the moderators.

cheers; to the moderators… thank you for all your hard work
