"Space Merchants" by Pohl/Kornbluth

Oh wow, oh boys and girls, this one seems to be a bad motherfrakker of a book. Normally, I would wait until had read the entire book until I make a thread for it, so I can judge the book in its entireness, but this is just too frakking awesome.

I only finished the first chapter and a couple of pages right now, but WOAH, there’s so much awesome mind-boggling, thought-provoking stuff in the first chapter alone that I felt the need to make a thread right away to see if other people read this one too.

This is a branch of scifi at its best: taking current developments and projecting them into the future and well, a lot of what the authors are projecting has already come true today.

Seriously, for anyway who’s a scifi fan and works in the business world or in advertising specifically, this one could turn out to be a total must-read!

I’ll keep you posted as I’m reading on.

Again, wow. This is an IMPORTANT book! I’m about 1/3 in and there’s a pretty surprising twist and I can see this is heading in an entirely new direction.

The novel so far is about a top-notch advertising guy who gets promoted to head of his company’s Venus department and then something happens…

I just finished this. I’m a little less enthused about the personal relationship between the main protagonist and his “wife,” that was a little too '50s for my taste, but the world the two authors created remains incredibly shocking.
