SOund Cards

My computer currently has on-board sound. I am looking to upgrade my sound quality by getting a decent sound card. I usually use headphones on my computer. I have been watching movies & television shows more & more online or off my dvd drive. So I would like decent sound. I do not need bleeding edge, nor can I afford it. So I am tapping the hive mind for suggestions on a decent card that will not break my bank!

I have PCIe interface for the card.

Many sound cards can be sworn at. A card to swear by, though, would be a Turtle Beach card.

I’ve never had any problem with Creative Labs’ cards, but I’ve heard that their support for 64-bit Windows is practically nonexistant, so that’s something you might need to consider.

I was leaning towards Creative Labs…I do not have 64-bti windows yet, so I should be ok.

I do alot of my shopping for parts here: (and I already did the search for you)
Normally I get it the next day, just because of how close we are to UPS services centers.
Your speakers will be as much a part of your “experience” as the sound card. If you’ve just got basic speakers your sound card won’t matter much but if you plug you computer into a book audio system then you’ll notice a real sound difference.

I work 5 minutes from the Tiger Direct warehouse, and live about 20 minutes from it. I get fast shipping from them as a result, but I don’t like paying tax (which I have to, since I live in IL) so I end up ordering a lot from http://www.newegg.com. Here’s a pretty affordable card:

Newegg has great prices, however since you live in MI TigerDirect will probably deliver quicker.

Ypsilanti… I went there once to see a road football game, back when I was going to NIU. Nice town.
