SOS save our shows

Save our shows,

I was reading an article that stated on average that heroes smallville, supernatural, and vampire diaries. Get the same if not more viewers than American idol with the DVR numbers.

So good news everyone were not as shallow as we think. Bad news that to the network it means just about nothing. Even worse news they seem either incapable or unwilling to actually move to a different model to adjust to how we watch tv now.

So let’s see if we can come up with. Some ideas that actually make money, so great shows don’t get dissappeared.

Mine is dvr limits problem with dvr is no comercial good for us as no more where’s the beef. Bad for us as
no more Sarah connor. Simply on the first viewing no skipping comercial, after l first viewing they could be. It could give the networks more power to monotize more than neilson. Of course you could still game the system. But it might be a good first step. Only problem is getting dvr manufacturers to sign on there would have to be some quid quo pro. Not sure as of yet on how to get dvr concession other than legal claimes of piracy. Which probably would not work, maybe some regulation.

Well that’s my idea what about you good folks.

Interesting idea. But if I’m paying for DVR service anyway…I want to operate it how I want! Of course, nowadays, we’ve cancelled cable and watch everything either when it comes on through the feed that bleeds through (we still have phone/internet) or on the networks’ site or hulu - so more commercial watching.

I don’t have any grand ideas other than they should look at DVR numbers and hulu/internet viewings.

Maybe some sort of survey thing, have to be regulated to one person/one vote, but could help with ratings.

Bad idea. Here’s why.

Indeed. I’m amused by “This DVD is equipped with Disney’s Fast Play. The feature and a selection of special features will play immediately”. Really? We have a name for this? Did someone think this was innovative? The promise of DVD was that it would be instant. Imagine if your microwave refused to heat anything without playing a 5 second jingle advertising its manufacturer.

I think the content creators are missing a big opportunity here. They should set up a website that contains only ads and call it SaveMyShow.com. Then they advertise to fans that they needs X number of ad revenue to keep the show on the air and would people please go to savemyshow.com/heroes and watch ten minutes of ads per day. They’d make a mint. Imagine how many ads would have been shown to Futurama or Firefly fans.

That’s so crazy it just might work.

just spit balling here

maybe completely cut the DVR premium and its just cable. to make the reduction in service easier to accept.

as for online viewing hulu or otherwise they need to either make it a place where they can advertise in a way to actually keep earning enough coin. or maybe a subscription type deal to pay for this stuff or the combination of the two.

as to pikes suggestion of the complexity i have no answer as of yet; i mean the more they try to lock down media; it becomes harder and more annoying for people who purchase this stuff to enjoy it. i guess they should just stop, i mean this stuff is out there already. but you should at least try to stop the flood right? just saying how there doing it now is pulling apart the dam.

Just don’t lock it down. I get the Hulu model (and they seem to be doing it rather well, generally) but if you bought a DVD, you shouldn’t be forced to listen to why you should buy a DVD rather than D/L it. That’s just counter-productive.

yeh thats gotta stop every time i see them it just makes me want to pirate a whole bunch of stuff as a punishment for stupidity. place the ads on tv not on a dvd you just bought.

You want shows to stay on the air, get people to tune in and watch advertisements. I feel bad that Im not lending my support to my favorite shows by sitting through ads but my time is more important. Torrent software means I will never watch live tv again, ever. If they want to keep making money they will have to figure out another way to do it and Im certainly not going to help them.

considering that i’m not a nielsen viewer, what i watch has little impact anyway. no network knows that i watch something live.

though i did get to be a nielsen dude for like two weeks.

the best way a big fan can show support is to buy the dvd; the problem is as mentioned - you are finger-wagged at when you BUY it.

that beign said, i know people all over who watch pirated movies. they look and sound like sorrybarb. i’d rather pay for a slower experience up front for more quality.

what i really want to know is why i can’t rip it.
