So the HD/Bluray war is over...

And now it looks like MS is rumoured to introduce a Bluray add-on as early as May 2008. http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/18/rumor-xbox-360-blu-ray-player-could-be-out-by-may/

If anyone has a 360, would you consider the add on?

A while ago I posted that the fan noise from the 360 would make it preventative, but honestly I could just turn up the surround sound to drown it out…

Much depends on cost, but if it’s around AUD$100-$200 (USD$90-$180) it’s worth a look, I think. At leats it would be a good stop-gap until Blu-ray players become cost competitive.

gaf

That would mean I’d have to buy a 360, so no.

Thought it was funny, today at Best Buy I saw a pile of HD DVD add-ons for the XBox360 going for …$49.00 !! Yah, what a bargain ! Last week they were $150.00 or so, oh what a difference a week makes !

sweet! like in a couple weeks i could get it for like 2 bucks. but obviously they are not. stupid microsoft.

I remember reading when they first came out, reviewers connecting them to windows XP PCs and getting them working without problems.

I think the whole BLu-ray thing is a cow’s opinion until we start seeing $100 Blu-ray players.

cow’s opinion = moot point

I think it’s moot until BD+ is consistently cracked.

I wouldn’t buy the add-on because I have a blu ray player already.

If I didn’t have one, I’m not sure if I’d be the player anyway - the fan noise on my xbox is terrible. Imagine that plus fan noise from a peripheral? Also, I’d have to be sure that it supports all the major audio formats (DolbyHD, PCM uncompressed, DTS-HD) and full 1080p support.
