Sith rules, and jedis...well...

The discussion about jedi arrogance and how they get their collective asses handed to them in the first trology made me think of the different code they follow.

let us see now…

The Jedi Code (cue somewhat pompous music)

There is no emotion…there is peace
There is no ignorance…there is knowledge
There is no passion…there is serenity
there is no chaos…there is harmony
There is no death…there is the force

now…the Sith Code (cue Nickelback music…cuz there evil)

Peace is a lie…there is on passion
throught passion, i gain strenght
throught strenght, i gain power
trought power, i gain victory
throught victory, my chains are broken
the force shall free me

now…looking at those 2 code…dont the sith have a better grasp on the real world then the jedi?

I think that the reason that the Jedi were blindsided multiple times in the movies (and from what Chuck was saying, in the EU) is that they are almost as dangerously out of balance as the Sith.

Emotion and passion and chaos are part of the universe, and parts we need in order to lead whole and complete lives. I understand the underlying values that the Jedi are trying to achieve, but how can wise leaders be developed from men (and the occasional woman) who deny some of the most integral parts of themselves? Passion and emotion are not crimes, and they, too, can be forces (pun intended) for good when they are tempered with serenity and peace.

Similarly, the Sith are destined never to achieve a full victory because if one is trapped by anger and hate without the balances of forgiveness and nurturing then the only strength you have is in turning away from the universe and hardening yourself against it. The victory you can achieve from there is a hollow one.

If I were going to write an epic, the wise beings association would be those who contribute to harmony in the universe by striving to provide balance to their own lives and their communities. But if I wrote an epic it would probably be epically weird.

Well spoken Star. The Jedi weren’t always so cut off and distant. They were once allowed to love and marry etc. Once Dark Jedi, and eventually the Sith, came along is when the Jedi started to deny themselves those elements that lead to the dark side. The Sith were defeated and the Jedi continued with the same doctrine of suppressing their emotions. The surviving Sith just stepped back and let the Jedi eat away at themselves.

so the Jedi were Vulcans? that would explain Yoda’s ears

LOL

You know I never thought of the Jedi as Vulcans b4. They do seem similar. Just replace logic with wisdom.

That reminds me we need a new round of ST VS. SW.

Yeah, I think part of the concept behind the the Jedi is that they’re just as extreme as the Sith. I guess you could say they’re much more haughty and distant from reality (especially the Republic/Old Republic Jedi), which is the downside of becoming un-attached from everything. Well, I’m sure that’s not what Lucas had in mind, but they’re certainly much cooler for it.

However, as those of you who may have read the Legacy of the Force novels, trying to walk the line doesn’t always end up well…
