Simple question: Why does Chuck hate Kes?

I never understood why ships counselors couldn’t be holo programs. I mean, they had a holo-doctor.

Before Worf had to be Bashir. Then, the Chief I imagine.

I dislike belittling Ezri so, but the writers made it seem like her job was to ease Worf’s sense of loss for a while. He’s had it so bad after all. Two women he loved were murdered, and a third went back to her former lover. Who wouldn’t have trust or intimacy issues after that? Though Worf seemed to get over it. d:

I doubt people would trust a computer to psycho-analyze feelings. Physical medicine can be done with machines/computers. Emotions seems a harder nut to crack? Hell, the doctor on Voyager prolly would diagnose everyone on Voyager insane…with good reason.

yup, that scene saved Ezri for me. That was greatly written, and wonderfully delivered. when she was making that speech, she was drawing memories of Jadzia and relying on Jadzia’s intimate knowledge of the Klingon culture and Worf himself. So as Ezri was talking, the mannerisms almost felt like Jadzia.

You know… we are all Trek fans. ( if your not… why the frak are you in this room?)

Even the MOST annoying character is going to have a moment or an episode where you like them a little or a lot. A bad Trek character is still better than a good Eureka character.

Folks always point out the few episodes where Neelix shines. People like episodes tha tpoint his relationship with Tuvok. The problem with that excuse is that there are 26 episodes in a season. Those “neelix is cool” episodes constitute an episode where he helps Tuvok and two line or three line occurances that refer to thier relationship in maybe two more episodes. So let’s give neelix credit for 4 episodes, hell 7 episodes that he is bearable , or maybe even cool. that leaves 168ish episodes where he is as worthless as tit’s on a fish. And even tho Neelix is a bad joke… at least we get that they were trying to have a character that was a joke.

What the Frak is Kes?

Star Trek is wagon train to the stars, cowboys and indians with ray guns, it is adventure. Don’t believe me… watch the only show to be simply named “Star Trek” and tell me where the chacter Kes fit’s in with any of those ideas. Kes is not as much annoying… as she just doesn’t belong. Seven of nine fit’s into Trek. Jadzia does, hell so does " sit on their asses eye candy" Uhura and Yoshi… but Kes… she’s just there. SHe is like a stuffy RA from your freshman year in the dorms.

But I digress.

maybe those fish with tits are called dolphins :stuck_out_tongue:

Kes was already 2 years old when she met Voyager. If she stayed on the ship for the full duration of 7 years, by season 7 she would have been 9 years old, which is the maximum life span of an ocampan. And that is why Kes is on the ship. Had she stayed on, she would have lived her entire life on the ship, having grand children.

They have explored what happens when a race can live far surpass human life expectancy, but looking at it from another perspective is a lot more shocking. To know that the person you love and wants to grow old with will grow old in 4 years and die, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Kes is a good medic. She also grow the gardens to maintain food supply on the ship. She helped the doctor develope a personality. They could have went somewhere with the developement of her phychic powers. I think the writers thought of her as Jean Grey. Kes expereinced a lot of similar things that Jean Grey went through. Such as becoming pure energy, and turning bat shit crazy with vengence in her mind. Not that I enjoyed Fury, but in hind sight, I think that’s probably what the writers were drawing their ideas.

she was okay; granted she was a little anoying at times, but there were much more anoying things on that show.
