I’ll play. I’m not big on desktop icons (read: I don’t want any. At all. Ever) and the image is just one of many that can be up at any time.

Because I have a widescreen monitor, and there are already title bars status bars killing my vertical space, I put the taskbar that is traditionally on the bottom of the screen on the left side. Took a week to get used to but now I love it.

Is that Xubuntu?

It is.

And yes, I’m the one who uses it

I love Ubuntu but I’m not a fan of Gnome. And KDE hasn’t been the same since 4 came out. XFCE is small, quick, and gets the job done.

i’ve been wanting to try Lubuntu for the same reason. But now that KDE 4.6 is out, I’ve tempted to give it another try… yeah… i tried 4.3, 4.4, 4.5 on kubuntu and OpenSUSE… but i am still tempted… since people are talking so many good things again. i’ve tried arch before but i got gnome, so maybe this time KDE 4.6? we will see if it sticks…

I’d never heard of Lubuntu before. sounds interesting. I may throw it on my studio computer (which doesn’t need to run much more than audacity and firefox) and see how it fares.

Lately it’s not that I don’t like KDE or Gnome so much as I really do like XFCE. I don’t need anything flashy, and don’t get any benefit from any of the new features of the bigger window managers. All I get is confused

I no longer have a “desktop”. Here’s me chatting on IRC from earlier today though:

my mom got a laptop, and i installed ubuntu over windows 7, it’s not like she knew how to use windows 7 anyway, might as well learn with the right OS.

she wanted a buddhism themed background, so i made her one.

I also changed the lightdm background to a buddhism theme photo that i took myself, though it is hard to capture lightdm screen, does anyone has a good idea how i can capture it in its original resolution?

Felt like posting in here after I spent all weekend finding new icons and images for programs and utilities. Pretty happy with how it turned out:

that ship looks awsome

Seconded. That picture was the seed image behind last night’s ‘try to go to sleep by imagining that I’m flying a spaceship’ sequence. The trick for me is to go through every detail, from imagined checklists to taxiing to ATC comms etc.

Thought I posted this already but it seems to be gone, here is the original wallpaper:

Awesome, that’s my new wallpaper. Thanks!

my current wallpaper at work, took it on a trip to Key West - the end of US 1 - in my new Jeep.

I have a few I rotate through. I love the slideshow desktop feature on Windows 7.

how do you turn that on?

Starsaber, I have used the first two backgrounds many times in the past. We have excellent taste.
Boonie, on Windows 7, right click on the desktop, click personalize, click “Desktop Background” on the bottom. In the main window, select the wallpapers you want, you can select more than one. You can change when the background changes with the drop down on the bottom.

Added a new one to the rotation this week
