Sherlock (new british TV show)

This is great news!

I thought I’d dig up this old thread as I have just finished watching the the first of the new batch of episodes ‘A Scandal in Belgravia’. It was as good as I could have hoped for, simply amazing. I’m really looking forward to next week. I like the Robert Downey Jr movies, and originally I was going back and forth on which I prefered, but now I’m firmly in the BBC camp. Although that’s no reason not to enjoy both.

Word. I’m also in the BBC camp after having watched the first movie last week and and now the first episode of the 2nd series a few hours ago.
As you said it was amazing. The resolution of the big cliffhanger…I totally laughed my ass off. And the female main character…oh yeah that is someone who wants to play all sides. Watson didn’t have to do much in this episode but his awkward moments and his scenes with Holmes were always hilarious. And we even got a little bit more character moments of Holmes. He is a anti-social man…but also a brilliant anti-social man.
Here are my notes while I watched the episode, so spoilers abound:
ROFL!! “Staying Alive” ringtone!!

Domina Irene Adler…IBIMB
Holmes really is a socially sorryBarb!
Watson and Holmes on the couch…why did Watson need to ask him about pants?? lol

Hmmm, why and from whom did Adler get the pics of Holmes?
Irene Adler is skinny, but still…
“I always hear Punch Me but it’s usually in sub-text.”
BBC seems to be very liberal…or Steve Moffat has Power over them.
Ahhhh, great move by Adler so Holmes has trouble reading her.

Poor Watson…he doesn’t know where to look. Holmes is still socially inapt to be really troupled by Adler’s look like at her nameday (<-- that was a GoT reference)
Sweet location swap with Holmes and Adler.
The attack, I’m really beginng to like Miss Adler’s character traits…well the other traits as well.
Molly, please hit Sherlock!!!
Hmmm, isn’t that Adler’s assistant which stops Watson on the street?
Zombie Irene…KILL HER!

Where did Sherlock hide that spray bottle? And that was unorthodox to throw him out of the window.
There is definitely some tension. How Cumberbatch can recite this minutelong monologues…or are they speeding it up?
Right, Moriarty had to show up again.
Yeah, already suspected that Adler had something on Mycroft.
Prediction for the end: He will get a text message. EDIT: CORRECT. YAY!!!
The Hounds of Baskerville wasn’t bad either. It wasn’t as good as last weeks episode, but I still enjoyed. Just like in the first series, the middle episode was probably the weakest. Next week is The Reichenbach Fall. I can’t imagine what will happen in that episode

It’s good to know fans of the show like the new episodes but… I am so jealous right now!!! I understand the show was co-produced by PBS so it’s unlikely to come to BBC America anytime soon, but they could at least show the new episodes around the same time instead of several months apart!

I thought the first episode of the second series was terrific, but I was dissapointed by the second. The whole episode felt more like fanfic, lots of forced humor. Definitively and letdown from the previous 4 episodes total but still well worth watching.

I’m sure the last episode will be fantastic, wonder if they will kill off Holmes.

Cumberbatch is a rising star and might be difficult to get for a 3rd series.

Well, that’s what happens when media companies try to pretend that old models of distribution should dictate what’s not only possible, but common in the internet age.

Just finished watching the third and last episode of the 2 series and it was indeed fantastic.

I will not say any more in fear of spoiling things but do yourselves a favor and watch it when you can get it.
Cumberbatch and Freeman both turned out great performances.
Very much worth your time, I adored both series even though I was not really a big Sherlock Holmes fan.

renewed for season 3

Hurray! Thanks for the info Operator, would have been dissapointed if they had left it where they ended series 2.

And now, I eagerly wait for both the next season of Game of Thrones AND the next Sherlock

CBS are planning a modern update to Sherlock Holmes. Do they really think they can do better than the BBC? Really? Come on!

I just watched the first episode of the first series. I couldn’t help thinking of Westley and Vizzini from the Princess Bride. I kept saying that the cabbie was immune to the poison. I thot Sherlock had already studied the poison from the previous murders and had built an immunity to it as well. I was wondering if it had something to do with the nicotine patches. I figured they were both going to take the poison and Sherlock would say, “That was fun. You’re under arrest.”

Of course, it played out better than what I envisioned. Just thot I’d share.

Also, I knew it was the cabbie when they left the cafe and had the chase scene. I couldn’t understand why Sherlock could not deduce that.

Watching second episode of first series. Favorite moment. “The average human can only retain 62%. Do you remember?” “Yes. I took a photo.” giggle

Second laugh. “I’m trying to get off with Sarah.” awkward pause Sarah arrives “Oh. Hello.”

For all those Jonesin’ for more Sherlock, there is another Moffat modernized creation called Jekyll. Fellow GWCer Badgerspoon turned me on to it. It is available on Netflix IW. It stars James Nesbitt. You will not be disappointed. Check it out.

I’ve watched the first season in the past week that I was home sick. WOW, is all I can say. Talk about great writing. The stories are so detailed and complex, that I have to actually sit still, put my iPad/Twitter away and pay attention. (The only other show like that right now that does the same thing for me is Fringe. BSG was another one.)

I really enjoyed S1, and plan to watch them again before S2 debuts in May.

So true. I’m not sure I can wait three more months for Sherlock to come to the USA (escpecially since it has been out in the UK for over a month now). I’m not in the habit of illegally downloading media, but this sort of thing almost demands it. The following comic pretty much says it all…

Well, saw the new info on the CBS Sherlock…
Watson to be played by Lucy Lui…
Apparently a lawsuit might be on it’s way as well from “across the pond”…
Some how I imagine a “Spinal Tap’ish” scene in the court room
“So you have Sherlock, and Watson solving crimes in an big city helping the police. Isn’t that the same show?”
“No, ours has Lucy Lui”
“But she is playing Watson!”
“She’s Lucy Lui”
“But she is PLAYING the same character, Sherlock’s assistant!”
“She’s Lucy Lui…”

Are these television studios just lazy these days??

As another odd way I think, maybe the networks should have a Show Battle. Give them a show to develop for example:

Three’s Cylon
Premise: After escaping a destroyed Caprica, Jack is sharing a cramped room with twin sexy sisters, he must pretend to be gay since the men’s assigned rooming is full.
Little does Jack now, but these are Model Six CYLON SPIES!!

Give them a year to develop and shoot them. Same time same night showing, three networks go in, one show walks out!!

Anyway, Lucy Lui!
