Shakespeare

oh wow, I had thought this was a fairly new thing.

their dvd

there’s a dvd? I wanna have it! Googling it right now

Mine too. I took my name from her, the original Lady Disdain. I love how snarky and quick-witted she is. She has an answer for everything, and she’s not waiting around for life to happen to her.

yes, my dear youngling. they’ve been around for a while. if you do get the dvd, check out the extras. there’s a really bad recording of one of their early shows with the original cast.

So, the King of Texas DVD arrived yesterday and I got to watch it today and I have to say, this could well have been a theatrically released movie, the cast was great and very scifi-ish: Patrick Stewart, Colm Meaney, Roy Scheider - Scheider was brilliant. And the sets were beautiful, I loved the Lear Ranch and the hacienda. It’s an awesome adaptation and I thank all of you who suggest this movie.

Excellent! Glad you got to see it!! Yes, Roy Scheider was fantastic in it. You’ve got me thinking about rewatching it.

Has anyone heard of the television series, “Shakespeare Retold”? It just popped up on my Netflix queue and looks interesting.

they ran on BBC America several months ago. generally liked them, especially taming of the shrew

if I remember correctly, none actually used S’s text, they were “reimaginings”

LOL Oh my God, I watched all the clips - it’s hysterical!

Finally, a sequel I can get behind.

Bigger. Louder. BETTER!
It’s Hamlet 2!
(look for the lightsabers)

I saw this trailer a couple of weeks ago, LT. Looks terrific. Especially the whole “sexy Jesus” musical number.

Has anyone read any Shakespeare comics? I’m also seeing on Amazon that there’s a variety of Shakespeare Mangas, any advice on that?

I’m excited (excitado?), my sister’s taking me to an open-air production of Midsummer Night’s Dream. I’m especially happy about where they’re staging it, inside an old fortress from the time of the 30-years-war. That’s pretty close to Shakespeare’s actual lifetime.

I’ll see you all after the show!

P.S: Here, I found pictures, too bad they’re all close-ups of the cast and there’s none that would let you actually see the fortress itself.

Hm, I found a picture of the fortress site, too bad it’s daylight. Much more atmospheric at night:

Productions of Midsummer get me all hot and bothered, too, GR
It must be that foxy Mustard Seed fairy or perhaps Tatiana.

Y’know, that’s almost exactly what I’d expect a German production of MSND to look like.

OK, more leather perhaps…

Heyho, I bear awesome tidings. We got to see wet t-shirt boobies, one actual penis and there was Jägermeister involved.

Okay, I am freaked out now. I swear that guy looks exac-T-ly like one of my history professors that has a disturbing fascination with the Black Death (apparently he wrote a few books on it).

Wow, sounds like German theater is a bit different than American.

It was a very modernistic adaptation. But that’s the great thing about Shakespeare - there’s always an excuse to show naked skin.

and nowhere more than in MND

Ahhh!! This talk of Shakespeare, fairly met, doth cause me to recall, with gladness that fine day whence ThotFullGuy did post his 1000th post, and in doing thus became, himself, an OG.
