SciFi Expo - Dallas (Dee and YoSafBridge)

Anyone planning on going to the SciFi Expo con in Richardson this weekend? Dualla and Saffron (Firefly) are going to be there. Would be cool to meet up with folks maybe.

Is there any way to buy the tickets ahead of time? Because I wouldn’t want to drive all the way to dallas and not be able to get in. Because I definitely would love to get a speed-pass and hang with some galactica water cooler peeps. That would be awesome. I would be even more down for it if someone from dallas could tell me a cheap hotel to stay at or something like that so i could go both days.

I’d definitely like to go. Steve, when are you guys planning to be there?

Uh…If Dee is there…and the show is filming right now…you don’t think?

Don’t think they have advance tickets this time, not sure why.

I wouldn’t worry too much about not getting in.

They have a link for hotels from their site. However, it appears to be somewhat frakked up. It shows the correct address but it seems to be centering the search a couple of miles to the north. I don’t really stay at hotels around here much to know which ones are the best, sorry.

It starts at 11:00 on Saturday. Right now, I think we are planning on getting there a little bit earlier.

Hi all, this one is in the middle of the telecom corridor in North Dallas so the hotels will be fraking expensive. Like I can’t imagine one less than $100 a night. Thanks Nortel and Alcatel! The reason all the hotels are North of the con, is that there is NOTHING close to the Richardson center so they’re all at least one exit away off what we call Central Expressway

If you’re willing to go south, you might be able to stay where that lady who killed her lover’s wife had their assignations, the Como Motel. It’s a real 50’s type motor court but it looks like it might smell funny. There’s alway the Motel 6 on Central in Plano, at least 3 or 4 exits from the con but a good value.

Motel 6 # (972) 423-6994
Como Motel # (972) 235-5266

Steve, I’ll email you – I think Audra and I would like to hook up and go with you guys.

Does anyone know enough about the place to tag a meetup spot? It’d be cool to hook up if any of the rest of you DFW area GWCers are going to make it.

Any possibility of snagging an interview Chuck of one of the cast?

According to the cons website which links to hotels.com which is uh…jacked…(cylons)…it appears that many are under $100.

It depends on your budget, but here are a few options:

Hyatt Place Plano - $89/night (best reviews of all hotels, reasonable price)
3100 Dallas Pkwy
Plano, TX 75093

Courtyard Marriott Richardson Campbell - $79/night
2191 N Greenville Ave
Richardson, TX 75082

Econo Lodge Inn and Suites - $57.60/night
2458 N Central Expy
Richardson, TX 75080

Microtel Inn and Suites - $55/night (a little farther away, but good reviews for an inexpensive place)
19373 Preston Rd
Dallas, TX 75252

For those from out of town, the Dallas area isn’t as pedestrian-friendly as other cities, and things are pretty spread out here, too, so you’ll likely have to drive or catch a ride to most places. Luckily, since everyone drives, the highway system is pretty good.

The weather should be great this weekend - mid 70’s and sunny!

Who all is going tomorrow?

Home for a bit before we head back for Dee’s panel.

Jeremy Bulloch getting his very own Boba Fett armor was really neat to see. The Dented Helmet did a superb job on it. They presented it to him on a mannequin, which he promptly hid behind and delivered all of his lines. There is a really good thread over at TDH with lots of awesome pictures of Mr. Bulloch IN his newly acquired armor. Link

Christina’s (Saffron) panel was really fun.

Hope some other folks made it to the con.

I have some decent pictures that I will try to post later today.

Here are a few pics…

Saffron and the rest of us…

Mr. Bulloch…

Oh…and from All-Con a few weeks ago…

The only word that comes to mind to describe Kandyse is “cute”. She’s this tiny little thing that is just a ball of friendliness and well…cuteness.

Anywho, hope some of you folks were able to make it.
