I’m not sure yet if I’m going to check this out on SciFi tomorrow. Has anyone seen any episodes before? Is it too kiddish?
I somehowaquireddon’taskdon’ttellrhymeswithstikgorrant this when it first aired. It’s very very muh aimed at the “tween” demographic. If they had made more episodes for the first season I would have expected it to air on “The N” (with Degrassi) instead of Sci-Fi.
Thanks, gwensdad. I guess I"ll give the first episode a chance and see how long I last.
I’m glad for the info too, the TV viewing time is precious. I think I’ll watch it since I recorded it and see if my 12 year old likes it.
We’ve started watching it at my house. Kids 8 and 10. So far we’ve really enjoyed it. Its got lots of obvious Doctor Who influence with adventure and aliens and all, but done a bit campy and they play up jokes and things that would be funny or important to kids (like making the Slitheen fart contantly even more-so than in the original Doctor Who).
The bad guys are obviously bad and the good guys always win, no one dies on camera (so far) and all the violence is fairly innocent kinds of violence: lots of scuffles and bonks on the head. The aliens have also been big fun. So far they’ve looked more like guys in rubber suits than realistic scary things so they are fun to watch. I think the rubber suit thing is deliberate to make them less menacing and more like a “play bad guy” than real.
I’ve been using it to help my 8 year old thru a resurgent “scared of the dark” phase by showing him how even if there were aliens in the dark, he could beat them
Even my 15 year old can enjoy it from the Doctor Who side of it and because the show really seems to be emphasizing the action and adventure (tho as a teen he finds it “too juvenile” to actually want to watch it or go out of his way to be in the room when we’re watching it, but he doesn’t complain when we fire it up).
I recommend the show as my 3rd favorite currently available show behind only BSG and Doctor Who. I put it slightly ahead of Torchwood simply because its shorter and much lighter.
Well, I tried it. I watched the first five minutes but could not get into it. Oh well!
(what with no Jericho, thanks CBS. )
I’m totally going to catch a couple of SJA eps. The only thing I remember from the 70’s Dr Who is K9. 'cause I wanted one.
So I was stoked to see him show up here.
It looks a little yeeky…
I watched the whole first season and will continue watching – only because I watch with my kids. I wouldn’t watch it on my own. Much better than Spongebob or Hannah Montana though.
I have two kids, ages 5 & 8, and we’ve watched SJA this season. We’ve really enjoyed it too. It’s not as smart as Doctor Who, but if you are wanting to get your kids into sci-fi, it’s definitely a good avenue. I enjoyed it even though it’s aimed at a younger audience. My 5 yr old can watch it without being afraid. Doctor Who is loved by me and my 8 yr old but he gets scared from some of the episodes. I don’t worry about dealing with that with SJA.
FWIW, I enjoy the occasional SpongeBob and Hannah Montana. I mainly watch those shows if the kids have them on and I’m in the room, but I don’t find anything wrong with them.

Even with Miley Cyrus’ blatant upper back nudity scandal?
