Sailing and...... Paintball ?

I have been a consummate sailor since age 14, and find it very therapeutic. I moved to the Baltimore area to be on the Chesapeake Bay, one of the greatest sailing grounds in the world. Its a zen thing, you, the boat, and Gods creation and will. Before kids, I used to sneak out of work early and run to the marina just to get 2-3 hours in. My favorite time is actually November, where you can be the only boat in sight, save the occasional (brave) fishing boat. Now with kids I don’t get the opportunity I used to. However just today, I took my 6 year old daughter out, just ourselves, and she loved it. She has been out before with the family but never just with me.

The other side of me needs action and stimulation. Paintball was something I fell into accidentally, when a neighbor asked if I wanted to go. I couldn’t, due to previous commitments, but at the last minute they fell through and I went. Ever since, I am just crazy about it. No mind you, this is a younger persons activity and I am 44. I try to out think my opponents and out “gadget” them to give the “old guy” an advantage. Sometimes it works and well somethings it don’t. Bruises on my body are usually the trophy’s I come home with.

I love sailing. I have only been out a few times, but two of those times where on a friend’s 1812 style wooden boat. Great fun.

There is absolutely no reason why your two passions should be mutually exclusive. Call up Col. Tigh and Lt Gaeta, get yourself a hook, run up the black flag and be the terror of the bay!

That actually sounds like a load of fun. Boarding Party!

How long until there’s a YouTube vid of some geek and his deck-mounted 40 cm paintball cannon !

We used water balloons, not paintball, but still…

THAT IS AMAZING.

Seriously, while I am not a consumate sailor, I have always wanted to run away and live on a boat. If times were a bit different I think I would. I have thus far been limited to kayaking (which is also fabulous), but I would love to learn to sail, too.
