NEW YORK (Associated Press) – Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry, an actress who appeared in numerous “Star Trek” TV shows and movies, died Thursday of leukemia at her home in Bel-Air, Calif., her representative said.

At Roddenberry’s side were family friends and her only son, Eugene Roddenberry Jr. Gene Roddenberry died in 1991.

Her romance with Roddenberry earned her the title “The First Lady of Star Trek.” A fixture in the “Star Trek” franchise, her roles included Nurse Christine Chapel in the original “Star Trek,” Lwaxana Troi in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in almost every spin-off of the 1966 cult series. She recently reprised the voice role in the upcoming “Star Trek” film directed by J.J. Abrams.

Damn! That’s really sad. :frowning:

Oof. We were just talking about her contributions, too.

Wow. And so passes a legend.
I got to meet her once at a Star Trek convention in Manchester NH. I got her autograph, and when she signed it I totally flirted with her, saying “You’re even more beautiful in person.” I forget what she replied, but she was pleased.

That is truly sad, she will definitely be missed.

My thoughts exactly when I heard the news.

That’s really sad… she will be missed.

We’ll get to hear her one last time next year, as the voice of the Enterprise computer in the new movie.

Bye-bye, Mama Troi. :frowning:

Rest in Peace, Number One.

the original. I’d have loved to see what that character could have become

She was a very strong female character, way ahead of her time. Probably one of the many reasons they ended up redoing the whole thing.

This is truly a national day of geek mourning. She will be missed. :frowning:

WOW, thats very sad. we were just talking about how young she always looked. sad to know she passed. wonder if star trek people will name a cancer reseach fund to give money to in her name. I already give to a few, but that would be a one to know about too.

RIP Majel. Yet another OT member lost.

There are several nice tributes up on You Tube already if you care to look.

Very sad. I’m glad she was able to be a part of the latest Trek venture.

Perhaps we can throw a Klingon style funeral in her honor. She added so much to the scifi community it is worth celebrating a life that brings so much joy to the world. Thanks Majel for all the memories.

I finally got a break in my day. So, I jumped on the 'net and surfed over to GWC to find this heart-breaking news.

Imma need a moment.

I’m reminded of sitting with my grandfather watching one of his favorite movies. Everytime an actor appeared on the screen he would say, “He’s dead. She’s dead. She’s dead. I think he’s ali…nah he’s dead.”

I never thot the day would come when I would watch some of my favorite movie/TV moments of life and share the same sentiment.

Majel, we will miss you. Give the Great Bird of the Galaxy a big hug from all of us.

My favorite Majel moment: the TNG episode where Lwaxana subverts Worf and teaches Alexander to have more fun.

She was FANTASTIC in that one!

Very Sad. :frowning:

That was a great episode! But then again, I love all the Worf/Alexander episodes.
