Rock Band vs. GH III

GH III released today, and the GameStop guys said it isn’t selling nearly as quickly as the previous versions. I wonder if everyone else is waiting for Rock Band (like me).

I suppose two things colored my decision-making process: first, I’m really not big on buying two new guitar controllers. I have two for the PS2, and I’m kinda bummed to have to shell out for the 360. I understand why it makes sense. I’m just too cheap-ass to do it. Second, I really like the idea of adding the drums – though it looks like you get only three tracks on the screen at once, so no bassist for you! (Who’s gonna own the gear, book the gigs, and bring strings for the guitarist? You’re thusly pre-boned!)

Also the Game Informer GH III review indicates that there’s still no way to co-op quick play, and even worse, you have to unlock each combination of easy/hard/etc. or you can’t select them in co-op. This sounds like a lot of ass-beating to get to the point to where you can play at a party, or play co-op when your friends come over – and can’t play on super-impossible like you.

Of course, if I was totally loaded, I’d have both GH III and Rock Band. But alas, I’m not.

Which gamestop did you go to perchance. I was working last night and today for the premiere so I am wondering if I saw you?

meh, I’m probably gonna end up getting GH3 first, then eventually buy Rock Band individually without any of the peripherals that come with it, as the GH3 guitar works for Rock Band… I wont have access to the whole game but it still has solo guitar tracks for all the songs for now. After the holiday season the business heads over behind Rock Band will then release all the peripherals individually (until after christmas you can only get the big pack of all the instruments, or the game by itself, bummer). Once the instruments are released individually I’ll pick them up one at a time as income allows, or just make my buddies bring their own over to rock out with =)

All in all both games look fun, and they provide different experiences, unlocks and stuff like that I dont mind, I can do them soon enough, Rock Band seems like it will definately be more fun with a full group of people goin nuts, but I dig the track listing on GH3 and am lookin forward to it.

You can get Guitar Hero 3 for playstation 2. Not just the 360, ps3, wii.

I played GH 3 at my co worker’s house wednesday and went out and bought it that night. It took me 8 days but I beat it on easy and I’m working on medium. GH 3 is like crack. I’ll probably buy Rock Band later when I actually have more money to waste.

rock band has drums.hell yes. im totaly making my friends get it, and playing it with them.
ive played percussion for 4 years, this whole concept of a drumming video game rocks my world…pun compleatly intended
