Hello, been listening to the podcast for a while now and finally decided to come to the forum… anyway,im a big fan of the Planet of the Apes films(minus that abysmal Burton remake) and this seems more of a remake of Conquest…which is great! Conquest is the second best of the series in my opinion even though it presents a serious hole in the mythology,in that earth goes from “normal” 1970s america in Escape… to a totalitarian one world government using sophisticated apes as a slave race in like 18 years which just seems like a bit of a stretch. So its really cool that its kinda solving some of those problems, on the other hand though it completely throws out the cool time travel/paradox element of the series…sooo any thoughts on this?
David Hewlett is in this, but I’m not sure how major his role is.
Welcome aboard, Calculon.
I’m intrigued by this one. I want to see more, though. I agree with you on Conquest.
I am really excited for this movie. I love the old Planet of the Apes movies. Except what is with all the 'of the’s in the name??
Why couldn’t it just be Rise then with Planet of the Apes below it.
I saw the trailer the other day, I didn’t realise what it was at first but by the end I was thinking that I really want to see this film.
I finally saw a trailer for this that got me excited, it was shown before ‘Deathly Hollows part two’. It introduced more story content and an emotional component that really hit me hard. You will really feel for Caesar after watching the new trailer, and I am excited to see John Lithgow again after such a long absence. He plays Franco’s Father who is suffering from Alzheimers disease, apparently the insiration for Franco’s desire to find a cure. And Lithgow’s character and Caesar bond, I really like this new element to the story, very cool and very emotional.
I think this elevates this movie to something more than an effects-fest.
There’s an advert that’s been on in the UK that is a few minutes long and basically tells the whole story of this film.
So now I don’t have to pay to watch it, which is awesome.
Not sure if this is the only part of the movie, but a preview scene with David Hewlett is up on Gateworld.
Just got back from seeing this. Easily the best movie of the year if I don’t include documentaries. In all seriousness, that movie was David Lean level epic in scope, and the ending in mid credits? Such a tip of the hat!
David Hewlett stole the show for me, as usual. I think Captain Hunsiker could easily beat up McKay! It’s a total 180 degree turn from what he’s usually been typecast!
If you listen to the Gateworld podcast, if I’m not wrong, the dude once confessed on an interview that he wears a girdle - and you can really see how big (not fat!) he really is in this movie.
Also, ever since Spiderman, James Franco seems to have a knack for playing sweet characters that makes me wanna cry. He did it again in this movie.
Lastly, Freida Pinto has an excellent voice & dialect coach! I’m stunned.
