RIP Steve Jobs

Dude was an innovator, He’ll be missed.

Looking at the apple.com frontpage right now almost makes me tear up. (And I’m not even a fanboy)

Wow. I’m an Apple guy. I’m no fanboi, but he changed many things that surround me. We need crazy innovators like him.

Thank you for bringing Star Trek tech into my daily life Steve Job. May you rest in peace sir.

In a way, Galactic Watercooler owes it’s existence to Steve Jobs. GWC is based on an iPod "pod"cast after all.

My wife gave me the best gift ever for Valentine’s Day 2007, a 2nd generation iPod nano. I’ve been listening to GWC ever since.

Thank you Mr. Jobs. You have changed my life and made it much better than I could ever hoped that it would be.

So say we all.

I’ve never owned a Mac, but I wrote my first story on one, on a school computer with a program called Creative Writer.

I was twelve years old - at the tail end of childhood - when Toy Story came out and reminded me what it meant to be a kid.

Since then, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, and Wall-E have shown me what it means to be a family, an artist and a critic, a dog, and a human being on Starship Earth.

I got an iPod as a college graduation present in 2006. Three months later, Galactica Watercooler launched its first podcast.

I’ve never owned an Apple computer, but Steve Jobs still changed my life.

Rest in peace, Mr. Chairman.

It’s the end of an era. Steve Jobs was FM to me.
A man of vision and innovation.
I’ve been an Apple person all the way since the early 90s.
Wow, what’s next for Apple.
A sad day.

RIP. he was an innovator.

but hopefully this industry will have more freedom and less bull crap like suing each other so no good product can come to a market… even if Jobs never wanted freedom in this market.

Apple, Jobs & the Mac transformed computers from something you programmed & played games on to something you could use. I remember the first time I saw a Mac. It was like a lightning bolt with a full thunderclap: “BAM! No Pascal necessary! No plotting out hi-res graphics. You can DO things with it. Right now.” *

Remember what a pale, sh*tty imitation of Apple early versions of Windows were? It’s Apple’s world, and we’re just living in it.

  • I wish my dumb teenage ass had been so impressed I bought stock.

RIP.

Oregon Trail was my first experience with a computer, and that was on an Apple II (48k, no joke). Apple has been a significant part of my life for 30 years. What I take from Steve Jobs’ legacy isn’t so much “innovation”, but rather stubbornness. He knew what he wanted computers to do for him, and I think he’s achieved it.

The iPad is probably the culmination of usability and a computer “for the rest of us”. I’m glad he could see it before he died.

Did anyone see Boingboing.net’s tribute? Nerdist tweeted the link to their homepage that had been skinned to show the old mac UI. Pretty cool. I wish they’d kept it up a little longer- I didn’t get a screen cap of it before they took it down. le sigh.

I was at a conference dinner full of mostly rural, mostly over 60 manufactured housing professionals when I saw the news on Twitter. I mentioned that Steve Jobs had passed away and every single one of them knew who I meant and how sad it was to lose such a talented innovator. That surprised me–and it demonstrated the scope of his influence.

The single best thing I’ve read about Jobs’ sad death is this piece from Slate’s Will Saletan (one of my least favorite Slate writers, but he really nailed it here): “If you want to honor Steve Jobs, do what somebody did for him: Donate your organs.”

I’ve got that Boing Boing tribute screen, it was sweet to see the old Mac screen again.
