Well, if it’s at the end of Muppets from Space, then I totally understand. When Gonzo decides to stay on Earth with the Muppets instead of leaving to live with the rest of his species it’s just such a beautiful moment!
Hey, that’s nice of you to say.
I watched DS9 when it was originally on TV in the mid 90s, but it was sporadic and eventually out of order. I liked the show then, but never fully appreciated it until Chuck and I watched it all the way through on DVD. It truly is a serial, with a few episodes here and there that could stand alone, but every episode builds upon a large storyline and very good characters. The first few seasons are fairly good, and the last few are awesome. You really should see it in order if you can.
Red Dwarf is just a blast. It’s meant to be a parody of the Star Trek franchise and other similar shows, so there are a lot of fun plot similarities and little things you can pick out that are a total twist on the original.
Futurama is so much fun, though I think it may not have as much of a deep well of material to draw from the way DS9 and even Red Dwarf have. It’s great TV, sharp and hysterically witty, but after that it might be hard to delve much deeper; I’m not sure…
I voted for B5 before I saw Galaxy Ranger’s post about Space: Above and Beyond. While B5 would be good fodder for a re-watch (once you get through Season 1), I think SAB would be a good fit for this bunch.
If the GWC crew wanted some cheese with its re-watches, the original BSG or Space: 1999 would be fun, too.
TOS BSG has some merit. S:1999 has none (aside from the most kick-ass props of its time.) If we have to do an Anderson show, UFO or even one of the Supermarionation ones would be better.
FARSCAPE!!!
Oh man, if that wins, that’s gotta be hard to search for… Anyone know where I can buy Farscape episodes that’ll run in DVD Region 9 (Asia)? I’m pretty sure Amazon only puts out Region 1’s…
Hang on, wait. If we’re changing the poll options, I want to change my vote to Space Above and Beyond!
I’ve never watched Deep Space 9 (I think I watched like 2 episodes with my Dad when I was younger), and I was planning on watching it this summer anyways… so yeah. Join me… please?
And for those in search of DVD resources - if you live near a public university (or have an affiliation with any university), a lot of them have DVDs you can check out, or you can get DVDs through interlibrary loan. I don’t usually do this because it’s slow, but if you can’t find something another way, there’s an option.
I’m in! And Casilda is totally right about university ILL systems. I get all the books for my bookclub from my university’s ILL and it only takes 3 or 4 days to get some pretty obscure stuff.
SA&B was awesome. If I recall, there was one episode where one of the characters crash landed on a planet by himself, and the bulk of the episode went by with virtually no dialogue, just the stranded soldier working out how to escape while fighting off bad guys. I keep meaning to buy that show.
Anyway, I voted for several options, because really, any of them will be entertaining if Chuck, Sean, and Audra are talking about them.
Yes, there was such an episode. Cooper was the one who did the solo mission, wasn’t he?
I voted for B5, it is truly a stellar overall story. I would suggest watching first season maybe 2-3 at a timeto get it out of the way. Seasons 2-4 you’ll definitely want to savor a little more as the story truly starts to reveal itself. If you liked DS:9, you’ll enjoy B5.
Farscape is one that friends have told me is very good. The problem with doing a rewatch on it is, it’s next to impossible to get first season on DVD. It was a limited run & there was some sort of problem with it. (I don’t remember what) It is not avilable on Netflix. So unless we want to promote Tit Borrent (hush GR I know what you mean!) we would not be able to watch it from the beginning.
I’ve been thinking about this. Since the episodes are 22 a season. You could do 11 a week, which would take 10 weeks to complete.
Farscape might be hard for some people because Season 1 is no longer available on DVD, I have been trying to watch Bablyn 5 but Have not gotten myself to rent it. All those choices are fine.
How this glorious old chestnut? Nothing like a batch of Soylent Green (insert Quizno’s MMMM…MMMM…MMMMM). Who can resist the late Charlton Heston’s scream at the end of the movie? Everyone loves Edward G. Robinson as well (it’s coitons fuh youse Rockie! Coitons!)
How about rewatching the older episodes and commenting on them taking into account what we know now. Talk about the little tidbits of information we got then which may not have seemed important then and see where that information led to in later episodes.
