HAs awesome as it is I totally understand why it was cut from the movie.
The reveal of the lightsaber on the barge was great and gave you an incredible moment of suspense with the inter-cutting between all the elements of Luke plan. Plus it as the same problem the Jabba seen as in New Hope of repeating the same piece of information that we already know.
Still AWESOME!!! I can’t believe they don’t have more deleted scene in those movies!
Are they gonna add this as part of the film? Cuz I’m cool with putting the Deleted Scenes in a separate section of the DVD/Blu-ray than part of the film.
That’s awesome. They gotta release a director’s cut of all 6 films with the deleted scenes included.

Someone was raving about how great this scene was on another forum, and I posted this:
I respectfully disagree. It doesn’t look like he’s building it, it feels more like he’s changing the space oil on his lightsaber or something, or some intergalactic equivalent of cleaning his gun (except it’s a laser sword).
Also, this scene Chekov’s-Gun’s the saber so you’re waiting for it to show up the whole time. When R2 shoots it to Luke on the barge (spoiler!) it’s like “Oh, THERE is it”. In the original presentation, he’s on the barge, R2 is serving drinks, then suddenly: SURPRISE SABER! It’s awesome.
So I don’t feel this adds to the movie. I like that it’s “new content”, but I don’t think it makes the movie better.
BTW, I’m trying out the concept of verbing “Chekov’s Gun” above. We’ll see if that works.
He’s finishing making it, putting the last touches on it imo. I think the scene rocks except for the “Luke Luuuuuuuuuuuuke” 10 seconds laters " Luke Luuuuuuuuuuuuuke"

The addition of new Return of the Jedi footage was surprising until I remembered that Lucas gets his powers from moneychlorians.
So at :34, where the hell did this snow scene come from?!?!?! And what hit the snow was not the green laser from the Death Star!
