"Power Laces- all right!"

I know that many of us expected certain things to be here by now as the future becomes the present. Things like surly robot maids, precogs that predict murders, and, most importantly, jet packs and flying cars. We’re not quite there yet on most expectations, but it seems that some of the things we once dreamed of are not only forthcoming, but some are even here AHEAD of schedule.

When Marty McFly (and Jennifer) joined Doc on a trip to 2015, he became the proud wearer of some neat gear. The auto-dry jacket with adjustable sleeves was certainly neat, but aside from the awesome pinbk hoevernboard, it was the power laces that seemed neatest. Not only was it a fun concept, it didn’t seem too difficult to pull off. Of course over 20 years have passed since Michael J. Fox put on his self-strapping shoes, and thanks to Kickstarter (which is an AWESOME website, by the by), it looks like one Blake Bevin is goig to bring us the future wear we have all dreamed of. Four years or so ahead of schedule, even.

The “rewards” category on the right is pretty telling, I think. Beyond the obvious utility of shoes that tie themselves for the elderly, those with motor skill disabilities, and lazy folk, it seems that sci-fi geeks have converged on the first 200 pairs of shoes, all putting up $200 American for a chance to get some sweet power laces.

I can’t wait to strap some of these on.
