Poll: Bluray addon for Xbox 360.

There is a rumour that Microsoft could be selling a bluray addon for the 360 in May 2008.

Please forgive the typo in the last option of the poll.

It’s not a Freudian slip…I promise!!!

Missing option: Buy a PS3

Fair call but…I intended this poll for those with a 360 already. Perhaps I should have been more specific.

I doubt that buying a ps3 to complement a 360 is an option to many gamers. As well as the upfront cost of another games system there is a library of games to buy as well.

There would have to be a VERY compelling games lineup to invest in a PS3 and at this stage one does not exist. Maybe in 12 mths when the PS3 hits it’s straps in terms of game development it could be worth a look. By then I expect stand-alone bluray players will be considerably cheaper than present day prices making the purchase of a PS3 unnecessary. I remember I bought my DVD player for AUD$400 not long after release and now I can buy one with more features for AUD$80.

If it is cheap enough the blu-ray addon may be a very good stopgap until pricing for stand-alone payers reduces. I say this with the following proviso: much depends on the actual price of the addon.

PS3 is also not being taken “seriously” as a BR player… I think the last statement I heard about that on Buzz Out Loud’s podcast was that 60% of PS3 owners didn’t even know they had a BR player in the device…

So, Sony is certainly not marketing the PS3 as a BR player.

I voted that I would buy one if they were less then 150.00, but even then, I am not sure. I am actually thinking of getting an HD-DVD player now that they are defunct.

80.00 bucks for the player, brand new, and it up converts all your SD-DVD’s so at the very least it makes a GREAT DVD player…

And there are something like 350 titles in HD-DVD (including Transformers, the BSG series, and the Planet Earth series.) all of which you can buy dirt cheap now that the format has gone the way of BetaMax.

If it was under 100$ I might pick one up, but only if it was clear that standard DVDs were going to be overtaken by Blu-ray, and I don’t see that happening any time soon.

Actually they do market it as a Blu-Ray player its in most commercials that are run for ps3. Also just a question for those interested in buying a blu-ray for a 360. As far as I can remember Sony was one of the companies if not the major company that controls Blu-Ray so I doubt it that they will allowing a blu-ray player to come out for the 360 anytime soon. I might be wrong there if I am please correct me.
