Plinkett on NuTrek

Red Letter Media, of Star Wars prequel review fame, takes on Trek XI. Weirdly, he kind of likes it.

There are also some other reviews on his website since Star Wars II.

Finally. Someone else who also liked Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

“So much for your peaceful future, you idiot! Nobody wants that anymore.”

giggle

“People SHOUTING is drama.”

The Plinkett Equation.

OSSIM!!

I love this guy’s reviews.

I liked ST:TMP too

Me too.

“Now I can talk about the Story, which isn’t as important as you might have thot.”

“It was the will of the Force that they all meet.”

BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

“Did she just say she demonstrated oral sensitivity on multiple occasions?”

Have you heard his Avatar review? If not, you should.

Part 1
Part 2

“…to advance movie technology in the wrong direction.”

Yeah, assume I’m pretty well aquainted with his stuff…

You know… when I was bashing old school Uhura in favor of new Uhurah… I took up A LOT of my time writeing back and forth about why New Uhura rules and old Uhrah was worthless.

Plinkett wrapped up and proved with no debate possible that old Uhurah was worthless and new Uhura rules in about 1 min.

I am the most worthless internet argue-er ever.

I do not know how missed that innuendo the first time I saw the movie. Maybe because I thought she said “aural.” Also, I did not expect a romance between any of the main characters in the first movie. Anyway, I’m disappointed with myself. d:

“It’s really hard for me to say nice things about a movie. So at this moment, I’m sticking a fork in my balls.”

I admit I was shocked when he came out and said he liked the movie. Especially, in light of his first “review.” But, he explained himself nicely very quickly.

(If somebody already posted this, forgive my redundancy).

And Plinkett’s review video:

Like all his reviews, funny, interesting, and insightful.
He liked the movie, and has interesting insights on the whole Star Trek movie franchise.

“Picard is a starship captain, a scientist, and a brilliant strategist and tactician, not a special forces commando. And sci fi shows today are featuring characters more like Mal Reynolds than Capt. Picard.”

This quote sums up the basic flaw in the Next Gen films. A thot-provoking show that tackled relevent social issues turned into a POW-ZAM action flick. The substance is there but it is just a morsel. The characters get lost in the explosions both figuratively and literally. You’re visiting family but it just isn’t the same anymore.

Make me think, not blink.

Yeah. I’m looking at you, JJ. Frakkin lens flare.

I expect we’ll see more awesome Star Trek movies, but yeah, I doubt they’ll be awesome in a thot-provoking way.

I’m actually still in the middle of watching Plinketts review right now, and OMG, he’s actually talking about the Drake Equation now!!

Thot-provoking is restricted to the Books.

Plinkett is great. Hits nail on head.

Amazingly subtle things he gets into. Like the unrealistic short turbolift ride Spock takes from the shuttlebay to the bridge. The kinda thing that the average viewer could care less about, but in the back of a Trekkie’s mind the WTF alarm goes off.
But Plinkett understands and explains that Abrams fast pace fllowing style of the movie REQUIRES that that turbolift ride be short.

And this of course:

" ‘Bones’ is of course an old-timey term for doctor. I think it comes from the Civil War or something when doctors were called ‘old sawbones’ because they would cut off your limbs to avoid the gangreen. But because people don’t no nothing about history or anything else no more, Bones’s name is now simplified for the stupid masses."

Holy crap, Plinkett, you read my mind!!

“Stupid masses?” Ouch. Short turbolift rides? Really?

How you know a movie’s good: The short turboshaft ride ends up as a negative point in a review.

(But hey – I know these “reviews” are really more for entertainment than information. I get jokes. </Homer>)

I hope you don’t avoid the review cuz of those two points. They’re not representative. I just happen to pick those two points out, cuz the the “Bones” thing has always been like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. But it doesn’t change the fact it was a great movie and I loved it.

The review is really long, but fascinating and although entertaining, a lot of insightful points. And overall the review is very positive.
