Piano Man Theory

Did anybody else find Starbuck’s question about since when was there a piano in Joe’s really odd? More accurately, the question isn’t so odd–obviously they’re setting the piano up for this week’s episode–but I did find it strange that nobody answered Kara. I think Kara really hasn’t seen it there before, either; she likely knows Joe’s pretty well, given that drinking is one of her favorite extracurricular activities.

It is really strange that a bar in a military vessel in a Fleet with dwindling resources would just happen to find a piano at some point. If the piano and its player really were new additions to Joe’s, the bartender or a fellow patron would have said something, even something as simple as, “Oh yeah, a crew found it in storage on the Thera Sita last week and shipped it over here.”

Therefore, I think Kara is seeing the Piano Man and his piano in Joe’s for the first time, but I think he’s a Head Character that only she is seeing, most likely the artistic and sensitive Cylon #7, Daniel. The other patrons didn’t see a piano, so they just brushed off Kara’s question and chalked it up to her being drunk. Kara hearing music that nobody else can would link her to the Cylons, and a Head Daniel appearing would still jive with Cavil’s extermination of the Daniels better than would the appearance of a live Daniel.

Thots?

now that u mention it, no one did respond to her question… and ive felt daniel would be somehow linked to starbuck, so im loving this idea

Now we’ve got a "head-piano?
No really, I agree with you and I think the piano-man (probably Daniel) will have something important to say to Starbuck.

I hadn’t considered the lack of an answer, particularly because the only other person we see is Bear fuzzy in the background. I had assumed the piano was real, but I think your idea is intriguing.

Kudos to Kappa! a head character for Starbuck would be a great way to move things forward, Quickly. Now, I am going to be bummed if its a real piano.

applause Good theory, Kappa! It makes sense.

I like the theory. I have been trying to play extra close attention to the latest episiodes but their is so much going on its hard.

I had been wondering the same thing, Kappa. But you said it much better.

What was the point of that whole scene? They don’t just stick useless scenes in for nothing. I can’t believe it was just to show how angry Tyrol was at the humans. Maybe I’m wrong but the scene seemed put in just so Starbuck could mention the piano and then be ignored.

I can’t wait till Friday!

Well, not only did Kara mention the piano, and Tyrol was angry, but we found out that Kara sat with Sam while he was sleeping when they had him locked up as a cylon, and she told the chief to try that with Boomer, and we did see him watching her sleep at the end of that episode…She helped him…and they did it without getting to sappy. And Kara is carring around the bullet so we learned that she has gotten over a lot of her issues and realizes she still really loves him.

Good point. I will have to watch it again, as I thought Starbuck was feeling sorry for herself AND rubbing salt in Tyrol’s wounds at the same time. I thought she was saying that she spent her time watching “brain dead” Anders sleep, hinting at how pointless it all was. More like “Hey, stop b***'in, I spend my days watching my nearly dead (all thanks to me) ex sleeping, so why don’t you go down and try living some of that craaaaaap, and good luck to you fraker”. I read mean drunk. Rewatch in order, I guess.

You mean Head Leoben?

If the previews are to be believed, Kara’s going to be having some visions. Of course that’s how Head Leoben manifested himself to her last time too.

I wouldn’t be surprised either if he turns out to be the not-creepy-not-Leoben of Maelstrom.

Kudos, Kappa! I like that theory. I certainly hope it’s true. Mainly because Piano-Man has a great ring to it, especially when listed with the other head characters.

Head Six
Head Baltar
Not-Leobon
Ex-Wife
Dead Cat
Ghost of Elosha Past
Piano-Man

Yeah. That’s nice.

Whether or not the theory is true, I’m sure Kara’s going to get some visionage this Friday.

idk much about serious visionsage like head leoben, but rather more dream sequences - think beginning of maelstrom white leoben paint scene. im going to believe that the pianist is real. but we’ll see

Just a thought here, Kara’s father was a musician. I just thought I’d add that in here. In fact he was a pianist (her and Helo listen to one of his recordings in her apartment on Caprica). So Piano-Man may equal Daniel and may furthermore equal Starbuck’s pappa.

Cue Father Figure music…

who writes the show, methinks.

I like the idea Piano Man is Starbuck 2.0’s father. I bet it falls out the same way Adama’s ex-wife did–flashbacks that seem like dreams/real experiences.

I prefer this, however unrealistic, to Daniel. That Starbuck’s father re-appears to her like Bill’s wife but isn’t a Cylon head-vision, though this show deals quite a bit with figments of people’s imaginations (or ARE they?)

She’s already had a head person which would seem to indicate that she is indeed different. I don’t think they’d use two separate plot devices on one character that may confuse the viewer. I’m sticking with Daniel is her dad and he may just be a head person, but he can unlock his personality within her brain creating the 2.0 personality. Maybe because of his DNA she resurrected “Accidentally” and wherever she resurrected (which ship, or within which group of skin jobs) freaked out and made plans to put her back in the colonial fleet.

The problem is that dog won’t hunt because someone went to the trouble to get her dead body to earth and to make her an identical viper and to make sure she rejoined the fleet at the most bizarre time (Cylons somehow found them, and their power crapped out) with absolutely no memory of the months that passed. I think her personality caused the obsession, but how do we explain that her painting was a damage baseship that hadn’ happened yet. Unless everyone wants throw their hands up and endorse “Time Travel” or “A divine presence” making these things possible there is only one answer left…

There is a fourth player in the mix.

  1. The final Five and the renegade cylons
  2. The humans
  3. Cavil’s gang
$ ??? (I’m still betting on Daniel) orchestrating the things that had to happen to make everyone’s visions come true. Of course Baltar and Roslin and Starbuck would somehow have to cylon DNA in them so that whatever is choreographing the cylons actions can put in head people to guide the desired actions from them.
