Phineas and Ferb will Rule the World

One of the joys of having a seven-year-old son is that you get to have a second childhood, albeit a more condensed version. Even better, you get to enjoy things you didn’t have when you were a kid. Most of todays kids shows are pale in comparison to the awesomeness of 10 to 20 years ago. But one thing I know I would have liked at his age is a Disney show called Phineas and Ferb about these two brothers who just think up crazy things to do and THEY ACTUALLY DO IT! This irks their older sister who in the grand tradition of Ferris Bueller’s fair sibling, tries to expose their antics to their mother. And if that wasn’t cool enough, they have a platypus named Perry who is actually a secret agent with a badass hat.

The one thing I see missing in most kids’ TV today is actual imagination marred with innovation. It gets replaced with whimsy and spectacle with the thinking that if it sparkles bright enough, no one will notice that it’s empty. P&F does have spectacle, but they do some of the coolest things like build an anti-gravity field or make themselves into overnight rockstars. The can-do attitude they exibit is almost Tony Stark-like as even in failure they are never deterred.

I don’t know if anybody else has checked this show out, but I wanted to put those of you with kids on the lookout as a more friendlier and exciting option than those shows with obnoxious characters that you really wouldn’t your kids to be around in real life.

I actually enjoy it more than my 4 yr old son. I enjoy the two plots in every story and even the one-liners. My favorite episode to date is the Chronicles of Meap. If you have not seen it, try to find it. What would be cool if they actually did Chronicles of Meap 2 like in the end credits.

I completely agree MovieDude, and well written! I love that show, as does my three and a half year old. There are so many lines that are obviously geared towards the adults, makes it even more fun. And yes, I have downloaded the theme song!

My 7 and 9 year olds love this show. I watch it as well sometimes. It’s funny, smart, imaginative and cool. I find myself humming the songs later on in the day as well. We still walk around the house quoting lines from the episode with Love Handle, hahaha!

I haven’t seen that one, but I will on the lookout. Does anybody ever wonder what kind of grown-ups thsoe two would be. “So what do you want to do today?” “I don’t know, become world emperor!”. Somehow I think they could do it, hence the title.

Totally agree. We love Phineas and Ferb. Best thing on Disney channel.

I probably have seen too much of this show, but the answer to that question is in an actual episode that deals with time travel and they do a great explaination of the alternate timelines in this episode. I am not sure on the show name but it a story that uses the whole half hour.

Bowling for Soup does the theme and some of the guest music spots. Anyone from Texas know those guys since that is where they are from?

It appears that the 85th episode is the one where the boys future occupations are told. good twist point at the end too.

I fess up…

None of my kids watch this show… but I do.

I catch the odd one when I can. It’s not often, but I certainly do agree that it is a well written show with lots of imagination.

Not so keen on Perry, but the evil-doer Doofensmirtz’s (sp?) antics are very entertaining and make up for it.

I have an unwritten rule about cool hats that I immediately warm up to a character. That’s why I love Perry, Dexter’s Angel, Timothy Olyphant’s character in Justified and Jaime from Mythbusters.

You’re totally right about this show. I’d incorrectly dismissed it as some Jimmy Neutron-style Nickelodeon BS. But the younger cylon saw some at the babysitter’s, and we watched a few. Still, I never payed serious attention to it before this thread. It’s awesome. Smart, subtle, hilarious. Thanks for the recommend!
