Papercraft

RE: the GWC blog’s C3P0 paper model.
There are a LOT of SciFi models available on the web.
(and even more anime)
Here are just a couple more:
other Star Wars (and more) models
Galactica, Trek, Star Wars, many more
R2D2, Bumblebee, Gort etc.
R2D2 mailbox model
Tron lightcycle
Gundam and more Gundam
more giant robots

Oddly, a Star Trek game yahoo group I’m on just posted some others:

This is such great stuff. I’m really, really tempted to give it a shot. I can’t imagine how I’d fold/handle those tiny parts, though. Or cut them out for that matter.

Yes, we’ve moved beyond scissors here Chuck, but I think you can do it…
Size tip: though most pieces are formatted for printing on Letter sized (8.5x11) paper, if you have access to a printer that can handle Tabloid size (11x17), printing it out larger can make assembly that much easier.

Technically speaking, you really need:
-An X-acto knife with many sharp replacement blades. (sharper is safer-dull blades have minds of their own)
-A good straight edge. Metal (or metal edged) is safer, but I chance it with a clear triangle so I can see through.
WARNIG!-Knife can bite into plastic, skim across surface and neatly slice your finger wide open.
-You’ll also want a good cutting surface.
Best-self healing plastic cutting pad. Also end grain butcher-block style cutting board (new-not cupped with wear)
Good-Thick gray cardboard (pressboard) from back of a large pad of paper. (dulls blades faster)
Bad-soft wood. Blade finds wood grain.
-Scoring tool. Something thin but dull (Paris Hilton?) to run along fold lines. They make tools called “Bones” (used to be whale bone), but I’ve used lots of things, dead ball-point pens, butter knives, a nail that I’ve smoothed the point of by repeatedly dragging across some old slate…
-Glue. I use Elmer’s that I’ve let evaporate a little.
-Glue applicator. depending on the size, I’ve used anything from small paint brushes to the tips of old X-acto blades to my finger.
-also, removable (repositionable) tape can sometimes be useful to hold a piece while drying (beware of residue)

Oh, and start with simpler projects. You’ll learn as you go.

Don’t forget the papercraft Weighted Companion Cube…

Been there, done that! Roller cutters cutting quilt squares do the same thing to human flesh.

I just saw this on the craftzine blog.

Llamas are almost alpacas, right?

The similarity is striking.

Alpacas have been bred for fiber production for thousands of years, while llamas were bred to be pack animals, carrying products to market in the severe climate of the Andes Mountains. Llamas are dual purpose animals, providing excellent quality fiber as well as easing the burden of Andean peasants and hikers around the world.Highly intelligent and gentle by nature, llamas and alpacas are easy to train and handle, even by children.

I don’t know why, but this reminds me of the episode of ALF where Lynn gets dumped by this guy Lloyd who insisted on pronouncing both "L"s in his name: L-Loyd.
L-Lama?

Sung to the tune of “La Bamba.” Take it away, Audra…

Speaking of paper Tron lightcycles…
Check this Tron remake out!

Origami Wall-E

and Origami Iron Man

can both be found at http://chosetec.darkclan.net/origami/.

This is really cool… And when Fox cancelles a show you can protest by burning them!

If I only had a printer!!!

Oddly, even Norton is getting into papercraft as a marketing tool for their anti-virus software.

CyberDrone has a ton of Dr. Who papercraft on DevientArt here:

Wow those are great looking robots, I may have to try some. I am working on a papercraft Star Wars Imperial Royal Guard helmet. I have found a couple of tutorials online telling how to resin the paper model, then fiberglass it and paint it. Then you have a working Imperial Royal Guard helmet.
