Awesome how much respect True Grit’s getting – that movie’s incredible.

Sad how little Sci-Fi or Comic there is on that list, though.

Interesting that Inception hasn’t gotten much in the way of nominations (although it did get the big one.)

I agree with the overall sentiment that Nolan should have been nominated for Best Director…

Ah, no women directors nominated. :frowning: And evidently most actors are white.

So much for film reflecting the diversity of humanity.

However, I’d love to have a chance to actually see any number of these, particularly Biutiful (which has had a ton of buzz going for it for what feels like ages) - we’ll see if any of the “smaller” pictures get distributed in my area. I hope so!

I was against expanding the Best Film catagory, on the grounds of dilution, but it does seem to be helping the non-obvious films.

To be fair, I think most are in Hollywood. Certainly true for most lead actors. Regrettable as that may be, you can only vote for what’s on the ballot.

I’m glad James Franco is nominated. I loved 127 hours.

True, I’m just sad/annoyed that the field doesn’t really reflect who we are as, you know, people on the planet.

“Scott Pilgrim Vs The World” got snubbed!!

Natalie’s got my vote.

GO TEAM AMIDALA!!

Here is how I see it going;

Of course I could be completely wrong

Sadly, even though I watched over 200 movies last year I only saw 2 of those on the best picture list. Gives me something to do this year I guess.

For the last 10 years, I have seen every Best Picture nominee before the nominations come out. Besiades a wedding and a new baby, I have kept the flame this year. This year, I am pleased with most of the nominations with the exception of The Kids Are All Right. I am okay with Toy Story 3 being nominated for Best Picture even though I am upset with Pixar right now. Here are a few notes:

  1. Christopher Nolan snubbed AGAIN? Has he pissed off the Academy somehow? You make 4 legendary films in 10 years, you would think at least a sympathy fu… I mean nomination.

  2. John Hawkes getting nominated is awesome! The best parts of Winter’s Bone are when he’s in it.

  3. Hailee Steinfeld was on-screen longer than Bridges, that makes you a lead. But Portman is a lock (with good reason) so I will shut up.

  1. Wouldn’t it be cool if not only Toy Story 3 lost Best Picture, but Best Animated Feature (to How to Train Your Dragon of course) as well. Look at it as a shot across the bow.
  1. Speaking of Dragons, way to go John Powell for Best Score. If Daft Punk couldn’t get a nom, I’m glad another underdog would.

  2. when will the academy finally honor the men and women who risk their bodies and lives for our entertainment. Best Stunt/Dance Choreography is way past due!

And finally…

  1. I could understand if disagree with your snubbing of Scott Pilgrim for Best Picture, but Best Editing, Visual Effect, Sound Editing, and Cinematography as well? You’re MENTAL!!!
